The fiercest of the guardians of the city in the sea were known to shear their long and lovely locks. In their place they would cultivate a sea anemone. As it grew they would become accustomed to its shocks and stings, until their relationship was symbiotic; the mermaid would provide a place for it to grow wild and large and the anemone would offer a deadly deterrent to any who came near.
I am thinking of turning this one into a painting. She was a lot of fun to draw. Thoughts?
The Mermaid State Park. Sounds like a great trip!
This started as a standard Sunday mermaid mermaid drawing and I swore I was just going to sketch for an hour. Three hours later... In the story of the little mermaid, the Sea Witch is bitter over her banishment and (in the Disney version) seeking to take back power that once was hers.
This is what I think she might have looked like when she was still a part of the Sea Court. Beautiful. Powerful. Terrible. Sinuous and Voluptuous. An all-together awe and fear inspiring creature both in looks and in might.
