What are the faes thougts on humans?

I really love that this is a question about the worlds (thank youuuu)

The Fae are basically indifferent? As with any thing, it’s dependent upon individual biases and there are multiple races within the species of “Fae” which have different interpretations of humans as well. Overall theres a sense of careful wariness (the sort of wariness where you watch a child with especially sharp scissors while you try to decide if you should take them away for the safety of themselves and others).

Generally the Fae aren’t troubled by humans - magic wielders are considered a separate race from humans according to Fae which removes Fae/human interaction even further. They interact with Magic Wielders far more regularly so that human/Fae interaction is more rare.

Some Fae (I.E. Elves & Trolls) are known to think poorly of humans - even so far as to dine on them as animals. Dwarves take to watching humans as an interesting magical evolution study, while other fae (such as Mountains) hardly even register the existence of humans as they barely exist in the blink of their eyes.

TLDR; they’re apathetic/slightly hostile but individual Fae register with humans differently.

Sunday SetUp

Today is a good example of how I create characters actually because @lilbluestem was on the receiving end of my thought process and I can totally delineate how it happens.

Characters totally help me process the world around me so I 8/10 times create a character to help me interpret the world or respond to it without actually altering the way I personally would interact with something.

Today I stood at the bus stop and had an intrusive thought of someone getting hit by a car while they were crossing the street. I wondered idly what a Psychic person would think of intrusive thoughts and sent this text to Lil:

“Random thought of the day; you know how everyone has invasive thoughts about accidents that could happen or like ways they or other people could die? How awful would it be for a psychic who would not only have to deal with their own but also have to identify when someone is having an invasive thought versus having a plan for something D:”

Normally my characters are Lawful (Chaotic or Neutral or straight up Good so it’s unsurprising my first thought is that this mysterious Psychic person would be bothered by invasive thoughts and want to help.

Lil responds (And this is where I love telling my friends because they come up with situations I don’t think of) “...or the nighttime existential freakouts people will get sometime. One of many reasons living in an apartment complex would be a nightmare for any person with psychic abilities.”

ME: Omg! That’s so true! Unless part of their powers was to exude calm onto people and so lots of people in rough parts of their [own] lives gravitate towards where that person is . . . . and they get a reputation for being the only crotchety person there cuz they’re kind of constantly tired from doing that [exuding calm and generally 100% of the time using powers]

And then Lil goes on to encourage me to develop this character.

So now I have a yet unnamed character (Who I’ll be developing more tonight and onwards) who seems to fit into the world of the Triplets. All because of an intrusive thought and a friend who bounces back at me. Generally if I’m not texting a friend I’m just considering other scenarios that character could be involved in. But this is generally how it goes.

Sunday Requests

There are none! So I'm gonna take a cue from @lilbluestem and actually talk about some of my processing. My inspo comes from just about anything but commonly I look at characters I would want to see something different from. I tweak an aspect of their personality or background and then let it grow from there. Once I've got a general idea about a character I usually ask myself about them, what do they look like, how do they sound, what impression would they give someone, how do the people that know them respond to them or describe them, etc. By that point, if I don't have an idea of a plot I may just set that character down. In which case I usually get snippets of conversations or responses to something and see how that might fit their story so far. Otherwise I may have an idea for how they fit into a specific universe and I'll try to ID their relationships with other established characters I have. My number one question is always: what is this characters conflict and how does that shape them? From there things always tend to snowball and if I have multiple answers, I never rule them out. I try to leave a lot of self and external conflict even if a character is at peace with a part of their life.
