It all happened in a blur. The pack was settling down for the night when they heard rustling nearby. Junction Butte pack. Figures came rushing at them. Sunflower pack wasn't scared. They were more numerous than their rivals. Soleil noticed a female. Black matted fur and a brown nose. Her yellow teeth betrayed her age. She was one of the leaders. He never intended to kill. Only to scare them away. Soleil targeted her, grabbed her neck only to sink his fangs into a tough odd texture. She nipped back. Someone bit his tail. Another pulled at his paw. Too focused on trying to fend his ennemies off, Soleil's blood only froze once he heard the loud yelp rise above the cacophony.

The pack makes it safely to Slough Creek by the end of Fall !

The harsh terrain of Amethyst Mountain makes it confusing and harsh for the pack to hunt, wich confines itself to the South East of the territory. Once the pups of the year became sturdy enough to learn to hunt on their own, Soleil and Aconite make the most of the pack's growing strenght to move up North in hopes to find greener pastures. As the family reaches the outskirts of the valley, they are "greeted" by two Junction Butte scouts who quickly retreat. Surely this is nothing to worry about. Sunflower pack happily settles in the middle of the valley around the McBridge Lake. Onward to prosperity !

Hot steamy breaths burst through his nostrils, when he arrives at the gravel fan, he doesn’t even greet his opponents. A growl rumbling in his throat, he immediately goes for the ennemy’s. He is outnumbered, not by much but he fights like it. Fur is torn, blood is spilled. Ko-fi

In the end, Soleil is left standing tall as the three yearlings run away with their tails tucked. Mouth filled with fur that isn’t his, he bares his teeth at the ranges of hills blocking his horizon. You who knows no shame I shall take back what you ripped from my own ! You who believes in spilling young blood I will play your games, I will abide by your rules and I will wager until there is nothing left to be gambled. The pack leader starts running again, yet he isn’t heading home. He ignores the red bullets running down his fur and he ignores the crushing pain in his hind leg. His orange eyes stay staring unblinkingly at the hills as he enters Junction Butte territory.

Despite being a yearling, Ghost decides by himself to guard the shore of the lake.

Being first on the line in case of a predator attack, he is the first to call out for danger and to face it all by himself while the rest of the family puts the youngest to safety.

A howl breaks through the night. Soleil startles awake and stays still as the fog clears through his brain. Then he recognizes who that howl belongs to, and suddenly his hackles rise with anger. Ko-fi

A challenge. Someone wishes to take a piece of his territory. But not anybody. The wind comes from the south. That’s where the Junction Butte pack is. Aconite presses her head on top of Soleil’s back and lets out a soft whine. We’re all tired. They’re not even good hunting grounds. We’ll get it back next winter. Soleil knows better than to give in to the rage. There are so many mouths to feed, everyone’s energy should stay focused on that. He settles back in the dog pile that is keeping them warm as the drizzle starts to fall. The howls won’t stop. Soleil rolls on his side, then stretches to ease the ache in his bones. He tosses and turns and despite the cold rain, his fur suffocates him. A lightning tears the pitch black sky, then a thunder crashes close by, resonating in the whole valley. Aconite jumps awake. It’s just thunder. As she lays back down, shifting around hoping to find the comforting warmth of her mate, she finds nothing but cold damp dirt. Soleil is gone.

Whenever Soleil and Aconite go hunting, Shine and Rain stay at the den to look after the pups. How relaxing to know someone is looking after them !

Soleil and Aconite are respectively 3 and 5 years old. They are having their very first litter and settled under a toppled over tree on the side of a valley. The new parents take turns on hunting and babysitting to make sure the pups are safe.

Of course it would make sense that two litters from a same pair of wolves would have the same genetic makeup. But Soleil is a wolf so he doesn't know that, and as far as he knew, the first time he saw all his puppies out in the spring's sun for the first time, his breath got stuck in his throat as his memories tinted with guilt.
