“Everyone welcomed me and they are teaching me the English language and their different culture. Training in Canberra was really good because in Korea it was minus 10. The weather was good and I worked on my weaknesses. They train hard and I learned a lot from them. “I am ready to ride! I was waiting more than eight years to become a professional rider. Even the pain I experience in training and racing contributes to my happiness! I also wear the Orica-AIS team jersey during training. It is the best thing for me. “I want to make a success of my role with Orica-AIS. I also want to participate in the 2013 UCI Road World Championships. In the past 20 years, no Korean rider has even participated in the Road World Championships. "There are about 300 women cyclists in Korea and it is a big issue that I can be a member of a professional team. I want to bring them some good news soon...”

With Emma Johannson and Sungeun Gu recently announced as new signings to ORICA-AIS, the Australian outfit is proud to share its complete line-up for the 2013 season. Alongside Johannson and Gu, Annette Edmondson and Gracie Elvin join returning riders Tiffany Cromwell, Loes Gunnewijk, Shara Gillow, Melissa Hoskins, Jessie MacLean, and Amanda Spratt to comprise the 10-rider squad.

Like many of her Australian teammates, Gu started her cycling career on the track. The multi-time junior Asian track champion went on to score silver in the points race and scratch race at the Junior Track World Championships. Her success on the track continued at the elite level with silver in a World Cup scratch race and gold in the points race at the Asian Track Cycling Championships. ... As Gu transitioned from track to road, she spent time at the World Cycling Center in Switzerland, where ORICA-GreenEDGE’s Daniel Teklehaimanot also was recruited. Following her stint as a WCC trainee, Gu finished third on the road and second in the time trial at the UCI B World Championships in Cape Town. Her results secured her place at the Beijing Olympics.
