Fresh off our strongest Drum Corps Associates finish in almost 20 years, the DCA Finalist, Long Island Sunrisers present our 2016 production, “House of Cards.” This summer, the Sunrisers will take the audience on a musical journey representing the characters embodied by the four card suits and their royal counterparts, the Jack of Spades, Ace of Diamonds, Queen of Hearts, and the King of Clubs.
We begin with the majestic fanfare of the Alan Parsons Project, “May Be a Price to Pay” which will reveal the hand the audience has been dealt.
The mood quickly shifts to the industrial feel of the working man – the Jack of Spades – with Charles Young’s “Tempered Steel.”
Our second piece, inspired by “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” by Jule Styne and Moulin Rouge’s “Sparkling Diamonds” shows the brilliant, dynamic, glittering side of our next card - the Ace of Diamonds.
The ballad, Christina Perri’s “Jar of Hearts”, portrays the passion, drama, and yearning of our relationship with the Queen of Hearts.
The production concludes with David Holsinger’s “In the Spring, When Kings Go Off to War,” which embodies the power and dominance demonstrated by the King of Clubs.
The mission of the Sunrisers continues to be providing performers with an educational experience through the marching and visual arts – instilling dedication, personal worth, discipline, and a strong work ethic within our members, all the while presenting our audience with an enjoyable, entertaining, and unique musical experience. The Sunrisers’ 2016 production “House of Cards” surely will not disappoint.
