Man, I just realized that the word Sunflower 🌻 doesn’t translate the same in every language. In English it’s just two words we have smooshed together. But other languages have MUCH cooler names!

German steps it up a bit by calling it ‘Sun Bloom.’

Finnish, Kashmiri, and Romanian, call it ‘Flower of the Sun.’ Tamil has ‘Sun’s Splendor,’ which makes it sound like some awesome treasure that blooms once every thousand years. But still pretty typical I guess.

But than you got your super awesome translations! Like Telugu, ‘Flower that turns towards the Dawn.’ Or in Serbian, ‘The Sun Turner.’ And languages that borrow from Sanskrit have a lot of variation in the word! In Indian you got सूरजमुखी/soorajamukhee, Nepali has सूर्यमुखी/Sūryamukhī, and others too like Garhwali have it ending on a ‘mukh’ variant. It can all mean ‘Little Hole’ ‘Mouth’ or ‘Face’. Man... can you imagine ‘Sun Mouth?’ That name kicks ASS! But ‘Sun Facer’ seems to be the actual translation.

Than you got your cute names. In Hebrew it’s ‘Little Sun.’ And my absolute FAVORITE, is in Czech, ‘Sunling.’ SUNLING!!! Ahhhh!! I can’t STAND IT!!

I read the Lightlark series. Halfway through the first book, I was genuinely so surprised to find out that these freaks are HUMAN??? I've been picturing funny little partially animal fae creatures, and you're telling me they're just PEOPLE who GROWL and BARE THEIR TEETH at each other???

You're telling me Wildlings aren't wild animals cursed to use their claws to tear out the hearts of their lovers instead of protecting them? You're telling me Skylings aren't strange little birds whose wings were clipped? Nightshades aren't spiky nocturnal bugs forced to be diurnal? Waitwaitwait Sunlings aren't lions? Moonlings and Starlings are the most human to me but come ON. They're just HUMANS with POWERS?? You're lyinggggg
