Cycling is an incredible form of moving meditation. It's just you and your bike for 1 mile or 100 miles and you can make it a constant battle or you can recognize yourself as one entity with the two wheels, pushing and climbing and grinding until you get to the top of the hill, get to the top of the lighthouse, get to the finish line. With nothing but trees, hot pavement, and an endlessly burning sun you are forced to turn inward - to remember the 49 killed in Orlando, to recognize that post-grad life is confusing but the right path always shows itself at the right time, to pushpushpush through the miles even when you want to quit because your grandma, your favorite ginger grandma, is dying of cancer. The truth is, there is evil in this world. But there is also good. There is loss, and there is gain. There are mountains to climb and peaks with incredible views. And as long as we keep pedaling, keep moving forward, keep fighting for every breath, we will be okay. -- "You'll never be rich enough, or bike far enough, if you think the value of achievement is having rather than being." - @jedidiahjenkins -- // at the top of the new Presque Isle lighthouse, exact mid-point of the #Sunrise2016 bicycle tour in Michigan.
