Snow freckled the island of Corona charmingly, dusted upon the tops of houses and smeared across the darkened green hillsides of the kingdom. He could not help but peer up above the peaking castle-top, tracing an imaginary bubble over and around the isle with teal colored eyes. A snowglobe in his mind, perfectly shaped in the way the city and houses rose upward towards the inner city where the castle resided. It was all very quaint, quelling any nerves he had about large crowds of people or close quarters. Perhaps it helped that winter’s embrace was in the midst of her journey, slow to fall and to end. It was fine by him, most winters being rather bleak back upon his own island.
‘Corona... why do I know that name?’
Even as he walked across the bridge and into the city, hands stuffed in his jacket’s pockets, the name rang with an eerie familiarity. The tunneling throughout his memory aided in being distracted from the occasional lingering gaze sent towards him, no doubt for either the color of his hair or--anything else. But there was only so much of his memories he could glean from, peering up from the ground as he arrived within the center of the inner town. ❝...Well I haven’t been here before. I know that much.❞ Furrowed brows accompanied his observation, confusion arriving all the same in spite of more clarity. Eyes wandered between the slew of people scattered about, settling upon two men in the corner by the fountain, his ears perked for any details that would help.
--”I’m telling you, the princess is immortal! She doesn’t age!”--
--”Earl, just because Rapunzel has magical healing hair, doesn’t mean she’s immortal. Stop reading fairytales.”--
--”PRINCESS Rapunzel, you numpty.”--
--”Whatever.”--
❝...Rapunzel?❞ A mingled sense of awe and disbelief struck his eyes from overhearing their chat, the colors of his eyes brimming with sincerest emotion. He watched the two leave, himself laconically approaching the place where they stood, mind reeling back to memories buried underneath layers of self-told lies. Of moments in time as a child, between him and a young girl no older than him. Her hair of a heavenly golden tone, stretching and spilling over everywhere like a river of shimmering delight. At least, from where he could see her, in the reflection. It was the only way in which they could talk, their little talks spent with him looking at her through a puddle of rainwater in the secret cave. At the time, he believed her to be real and questioned very little about the ridiculousness of it all, only happy to be able to know her--to see someone from another world.
And then one day, they stopped. The puddle, over time, no longer bore reflections of her. Only still water that mirrored his lonely visage, from a boy into a teenager. Memory became a funny thing, where he convinced himself that she was nothing more than an imaginary friend.
Until now.
❝...Would she even want to see me again?❞ A soft musing to himself, casting his gaze over to the side of the fountain water, a rippled reflection of his present face presented to him. Muddled, older, more lost and addled by the passage of time--and life. More than that, he had even lost faith that she was real. Now here he was, ever the fool as always. He tore his gaze away from the water, walking past the fountain as he neared the bridge that led to the inner castle. The guards regarded him with a peculiar scrutiny as the one with silver hair lifted his head, peering up into the walls and open windows of the royal towers. Decorated with brightened colors, majestic and towering architecture. And a princess who’s brightly aureate hair, even in the midst of winter, could be seen from any corner of the world. She walked into the view of a window, as if he was meant to spot her. A smile, soft and small, curled along the traveler’s lips, taking in her present appearance.
‘She... got out. She’s free. ...That’s enough for me then.’

❛ So, why are these lanterns so special to you? ❜ Was this where Rose was expecting her next few days going upon warping to Corona? Absolutely not. She was to arrive, check for any corrupted gem activity, deal with it and then come home. She was to return to the Americas, in their early days of freedom, and help sort out political grievances. Ending up within a tower, rescuing an organic being from her imprisonment and taking her to see lanterns wasn't on her to do list. But she couldn't just leave her there! Seeing Rapunzel within that tower, trapped with nowhere to go reminded her far too much of Homeworld. Any time Pink acted out, it was easier to lock her in the tower for a few hundred years or so. Why waste time on figuring out why the youngest diamond was acting the way she was? Punishment was quicker, punishment hid the chink within their armor; the flaw in their otherwise perfect empire. Each time she was all alone, within the dark, with nothing to do. Any glimmer of hope she had came each morning when a hint of sunlight shone through the small window.
No one deserved to be locked away like that. And so, the quartz ended up as a tour guide. Truthfully she wasn't the best pick for this. Yes, she was on Earth when Corona first came to be, knew every king and queen before the current pair intimately. And yes, she watched as the kingdom was built. Bismuth would have aided within it had she been around! But it has been years since she was last here. All humans moved so fast, their worlds were always changing. What if it wasn't anything like she remembered?
❛ Not that there has to be a special reason. I figure anything that compels you to chase after them like this must be incredibly interesting though. ❜

☆.。‧͙*・༓ ☽ The feel of the cool night air whizzing by was years better than flying through the stale, never changing, never flowing air that had been as trapped within her father's hotel as she was, but tonight, she was allowed out into the world. Finally, she could explore and experience as much in a single night as she could squeeze in - provided she stayed within a certain perimeter and came back before sunrise. The same sunrise that was now inching it's way up into the sky - she realize with a sinking heart - the sunbeams cut through darkness as easily as it could burn through her.
❝ Ok, Ok, dooon't panic. ❞ She scanned the tree canopy below her, while panicking. ❝ Just find a hollow tree or something. ❞ But a lonely tower was somehow easier to come by. And so, sunlight torching her wings, Mavis dove into the open window - whatever consequences could be dealt with later, when she wasn't burning.
She crashed onto the smooth stone floor, her wings stretching out, seeking cool relief as the burning ceased and her world spun into inky darkness, engulfing her as she fainted from the experience.
☽ / @sunsreign : Whacks with frying pan. UNPROMPTED CHAOS !! || accepting !!
❝ w-wait— ❞ a second too late does she notice the incoming swing of a...frying pan ? having climbed into the tower moments before, thinking it abandoned && yet it wasn’t — except through the searing pain all that came was darkness after.
