Someone’s ready for their close-up AND giving a really good side eye for making her wait! @dswt ・・・ Siku has everyone smitten — and it’s easy to see why! • Siku is a “DSWT grandcalf”; her mum, Sunyei, was rescued from the bottom of a hole when she was just days old. After raising her for the better part of a decade, we were delighted when Sunyei decided it was time to return to a life in the wild. That delight was compounded when, last October, she introduced us to newborn Siku. This morning Sunyei introduced us to her beautiful newborn. She came into this world just as the sun was rising, so we have named her Siku, the Swahili word for “day.” Sunyei came to us as a newborn herself; when she was rescued from a hole in 2003, her umbilical cord was still attached. Nothing could make us happier than to see her, fourteen years later, living back in the wild and confidently bringing her own baby into this world. Siku is Ithumba’s third October baby; she joins Yoyo and Nusu, who born earlier this month. Their mums (who were all rescued, raised, and reintegrated back into the wild by the DSWT) are very eager to show off their new additions to their human family, so our Ithumba Reintegration Unit is quickly turning into a nursery!
