Steve sat at the table he’d reserved for his date, staring silently at the familiar face in the doorway. She wore the color Natasha had told him she’d be wearing, just as he was wearing the dark green shirt she’d told him to wear. So you can recognize each other when you get there, she’d said. When he’d agreed to a blind date, Steve had thought it would be someone he didn’t know- or, if anything, someone from some obscure office who he might have heard of but, again... didn’t know.
Not her.
What if she wasn’t interested in him like that? What if she realized they were supposed to be one another’s dates and laughed or something?
This was the last time he let Natasha try to hook him up with someone. She was always trying to figure out who he should date. As if he absolutely needed someone in his life. He’d been just fine as he was... though he couldn’t deny having a partner was something he’d like. It just- wasn’t easy for him to connect with people, which made tonight’s adventure all the more nerve-wracking. Now it was even worse because apparently, Natasha had picked one of their own teammates for him to date. Thought she was real sly about it, too. He’d get her back for this.
Taking a deep breath, he stood and made his way over to where Wanda waited. “Hey,” he greeted softly, reaching out to touch her arm. “You look beautiful, Wanda. You lookin’ for somebody?”
