There is meaning to the colors of Daenerys dragons, and have implications going forward. This just another iteration of an old idea I posted previously.
Drogon is black and scarlet, the colors of House Targaryen. He is the colors of fire and blood, the roots of Valyrian sorcery and the most potent and dangerous kind of magic.
He is also compared to Balerion the Black Dread who played a central role to House Targaryen. Balerion came with House Targaryen when they first arrived in Westeros, being a living tie to their heritage in Valyria and Essos.
He was the mount of the founder of the dynasty Aegon the Conqueror and even literally forged the Iron Throne with his fires. His riders were kings or heirs to throne from Aegon I to Maegor and Viserys I as well as Aerea, the heir going strictly by primogeniture. He was also the biggest dragon in House Targaryen's history (in Westeros at least), and no dragon since him ever literally measured up to him. He cast a large shadow in every sense of the term.
Drogon being her mount emphasizes Daenerys becoming a true dragon in the mold of Aegon I and reclaiming her heritage, symbolizing a new beginning for House Targaryen.
A black dragon is also the sigil of House Blackfyre and Daenerys would be fighting them with their own sigil. Aegon may be a black dragon, but he is a mummers dragon while she has the real thing. He may have Aegon's sword Blackfyre, his name and maybe even Aegon's Valyrian steel and ruby crown but Daenerys had the thing that allowed Aegon to unite Westeros and forge the Iron Throne on the first place.
Viserion is a white and gold dragon. There have only been two people with white dragon sigil. The first is Aemon the Dragonknight, the greatest knight House Targaryen ever produced who wore a white gold dragon crest on his helm. He was a handsome, knightly prodigy and a chivalrous man, practically a fairytale knight. He wore the white cloak as he defended Daeron I from the Dornish up to taking a poisoned arrow for him, and died defending Aegon IV from the Toynes. He defended Naerys and her son Daeron from his brother the Unworthy in his attempts to have Daeron removed from the line of succession and have Naerys executed.
The other person is Brynden Rivers, master of whisperers and Hand of the King who was instrumental in the defeat of the first Blackfyre Rebellion in the slaying of Daemon I. He largely defended House Targaryen from the Blackfyre threat throughout his life. Currently, he is a greenseer defending the realm from the Long Night and looking after the remaining Targaryen male heir. (He never mentions Daenerys, and we don't see any hints of him in her POV).
The white dragon had always defended members of House Targaryen, including from their own kin. Dany will be facing the same threats Brynden and Aemon faced in the form of the Dornish, House Blackfyre and a stormlander house with the house colors of black and gold.
White is also the color of her lionskin that Drogo gave her, Arstan Whitebeard aka Barristan the white knight who saved her life twice, and the walls of Vaes Toloro that served as her refuge after the red waste. It is a color associated with protection.
Viserys will likely be ridden by Daenerys's biggest protector after Barristan passes. That might be Tyrion, her next advisor.
Rhaegal is green and bronze. Bronze is the collars of Drogo's slaves, spiked caps of the Unsullied and the Harpy of Slaver's Bay. Bronze is associated with slavery.
The Greens opposed the female line in the Dance of Dragons that resulted in the decimation of the dragons both figurative and literal. The last dragon before Daenerys hatched her eggs was a green dragon who died during Aegon the Dragonbane's reign, marking the extinction of their dragons and the beginning of the decline of House Targaryen. Green was also the color of wildfire in the Tragedy at Summerhall that saw the deaths of Egg and his son Duncan the Small along with countless others and Aerys used to burn Rickard Stark in an act that would result in the fall of House Targaryen. Not tp mention his MAD plan for King's Landing.
Green is also a color in opposition to Daenerys with the Green Grace, the Titan's bastard's green eyes, the green pearl sandals that pinch her feet, the manticore and later the Greens in the second Dance of Dragons. Green is a color associated with the decline, self-destruction in pursuit of power and betrayal/opposition.
Rhaegal is likely going to be ridden by one(s) in Westeros who oppose Daenerys, and bring about their own demise. They may even use the dragonhorn to enthrall him.
Imagine you're a baby, far away from home. And you are the littlest of your siblings. But bigger than everyone else. And then suddenly youre older now. Your friends are dead, your older siblings are dead. And now you're just an old lady watching all the babies who dont understand that you guys are far away from home. And you miss it and your people, not the new people who are just there and keep dying. And you help kill your people, and then you die too, and suddenly you are flying with your siblings again but now you arent just a little baby but a grown woman who is still small. And your happy and theres wind in your scales.
This is about Vhagar and i did cry to the idea of this before.
