Ok I just finished the first book and OHHHH BOY I’m so excited to blog out my thoughts

my god yall, I was reading svsss while on the bus and it took all that was within me to not scream out loud when I saw MOBEI JUN??????? I was literally silently screaming for literally a good 5 minutes trying to not look weird in public. I WAS NOT EXPECTING HIM TO SHOW UP THIS EARLY (and neither did SQQ lmao) AND HES SO COOL!!!!

LBH I love you. I love how protective you are over your shizun. I love how strong and cool you are. I love how terrifying you are.

The entire fucking scene where SQQ pushes LBH into the Abyss. Jesus Christ I knew it was gonna be hard on the heart but my god. The writing style, usually light hearted, now deadly serious. SQQ hating that he was too harsh. LBH interpreting every word of SQQ’s praise of his talent and regrets in the worst way possible. LBH’s heart being so loving that even when SQQ is actively telling him that his demon heritage is horrid, with a cold and empty look, LBH STILL holds on to SQQ’s words in the past (which. Wow SQQ, LBH DID hold onto those words as dearly as you wanted him to). Binghe refusing to believe that SQQ hates him EVEN WHEN THERE IS A LITERAL SWORD STABBED INTO HIM, and literally just??? Taking the blade??? And like the cherry on top of this depressing sundae, Velinxi’s art, as always, slays. What an insane scene. Holy fuck.

Even Ming Fan and Ning Yingying get character development!! B4 they were much more 2D but this is how you know that the PIDW story is actually getting better in-universe—Ming Fan actually genuinely getting sad over LBH’s “death”, Ning Yingying actually taking the time to try to get SQQ up out of his depression and her actually growing up,,,, overall, more complex emotions given to (what used to be) one-note characters!

Despite how SQQ keeps trying to downplay it, it is SO obvious that literally everyone can see how depressed he is when LBH “died”,,,, I feel so sad for him

You know, I knew about SQQ’s severe internalized homophobia but like, it rlly takes several leaps of logic to hear SQH say “hey you rlly love my MC, is he a character or a real person to you” and compare it to “hey do you have a crush?????”

Anyways. I am just so excited to get started on the 2nd book soon! Really enjoying my readthrough so far!!
