Ok, so I finally got a bluetooth keyboard (logitech k380), and it’s not half bad! So I’m going to be test driving some new desktop configurations to figure out how the new keyboard is going to fit in. Among the things I will be doing is running a drawpile session and livestreaming it. There won’t be much happening on my end, but hey, you’re welcome to join or watch.

Someone liked an old drawpile post, which reminds me- who’s interested in a drawpile?
What’s drawpile? It’s basically a chat program where everyone can also draw on the same canvas. It’s super fun, and with all the new people it’s definitely time to host another one.
I wish I could figure out dedicated servers and stuff to have a permanent drawpile session, but I am no good at servers. So I’ll need to figure out what times people prefer if I (or someone) hosts the drawpile session.
You totally DO NOT have to be some awesome artist to join! Come and draw stick figures with your mouse! It’s all in good fun.
Also, please say if you want to be drawing (or see other people draw) nsfw stuff, since that’ll affect the setup. (nsfw sessions have to be password-locked.)
**Since this is a public session hosted on Drawpile’s servers, please keep the content to PG-13. That means no porny stuff. If people want to draw porn, I can change the settings for future sessions.
**You don’t have to limit yourself to drawing superbat. Other stuff is fine too!
**You don’t have to draw, or have to have a tablet to draw! Come chat and hang out!
How to Join
Download and install Drawpile. Works on Windows, Mac, or a couple Linux distros. Will not work on Android or iOS.
Session > Join
Paste this for Host Address:
drawpile://drawpile.net/superbat
Pick a username. If someone’s already using the name you picked, it’ll tell you, and you’ll have to start again from step 2.
Click “Join.”
That’s it! It’s pretty simple. It might take a while for the drawpile to finish loading, so you’ll want to wait until it’s done before drawing.
**If you’re timing out before the chat fully loads (which may happen on very low-powered systems), try this.
Edit > Preferences > Network
Increase the Timeout setting- maybe 120s or something.
How to save your awesome work
File > Save As
If your art program of choice supports the Open Raster format (like GIMP, MyPaint, etc.), you can save as ora. Otherwise, you’ll have to save as a jpg, png, tiff, etc without layers.
** You can save even after you leave the session.
How to leave a session
I swear I remember seeing that it’s recommended that you leave a session before exiting the program, since otherwise Drawpile will try to reconnect you to the same session next time you launch it. But I can’t find where I read this bit of advice, so I don’t know if I hallucinated it or saw it somewhere that wasn’t Drawpile.net. In any case, I’d advise leaving the session before exiting the program.

I’m setting one up right now. I’ll post the login information in a bit. It’ll run until midnight PST (-8 GMT) at the earliest, maybe longer if people want to stay.
Ok, yes, I picked that title over “Superbat Drawpile” because it rhymed.
There doesn’t seem to be enough interest to host one this weekend. It’s what I get for getting the idea and proposing it during a holiday weekend. :P I originally wanted to host one that went on all day, but my own schedule doesn’t allow that without being absent most of the time until evening, so that’s not super feasible. I’m -8 GMT, so by the time I’m on, most of the world is asleep or getting ready to go sleep.
I might host one anyway, so if you’re not too far from my timezone or a night owl (morning person if you’re on the other side of the world?), come join! I’ll post links and how-to’s when I do.
I want to eventually make these a regular thing, so if other people want to host one too, it’s super easy and I will totally join if I’m on.
