What’s your DC hot takes?
Oh Ho…OHHHH HOO HOOOOO brother, I got a whole plenty I can name off the top of my head and they’d barely scratch the surface. So I’ll just give at least five of them to help ease things out. Some would be nitpicking (or maybe all of them) but I stand by them
1) If they were gonna make a Nightwing solo book, maybe they should’ve ironically even further downplayed or just ignore any to all connections and references he makes to his time as Robin and working for Batman, even moreso than New Teen Titans. Him establishing himself as his own man and hero detached from the Bat was the whole reason he backed Nightwing in the first place, so make a commitment to that premise and Stick With It!
2) On a similar note, The original plans for the DickKory wedding and subsequent solo series they would’ve I felt been a Reaally fascinating and exciting sort of book I’d love to read in a daily basis. It’s clear even back then despite Batmania and possible Titan fatigue, fans would’ve given this book a clear chance and it likely would’ve been a successful one that might even been present to this day. Nightwing and Starfire as the Flying Graysons….just a brilliant idea that hopefully is STILL on the table despite DC editorial’s shortsighted stubbornness for DickBabs being a thing when it clearly isn’t
3) Christopher Kent should’ve been properly reintroduced into canon at that moment when Ursa was during Superman Rebirth rather than reinvented as Lor Zod, a mostly loyal child of the titular General. I don’t give a damn if it’s meant to give Jon Kent an evil counterpart as Zod is for Clark, Jon deserves an older brother that’s not just Conner and Goddamn why did Young Justice Animated had to adopted Lor instead of Chris?? I Beg Of You Why Why Whhhyyyy….??
(*Cut to a ‘Technical Difficulties* Screen)
(Clears throat) Okay got a little bit too passionate, now where was I…Oh right Hot Takes
4) While I can understand the greater context of Red Robin as a story and I do understand with people’s nitpicks of wanting a certain Timothy Drake to actually grow up beyond being a perpetual teenager, well kinda bit being a relatable kid in attitude and heart even as he gets older is kinda bit one of the core fundamentals of his character which I think many creative types both official and fanon need to keep in mind if they’re writing him. The second I see a Tim being a killjoy and all his more kiddish traits being passed the other Robins interchangeably in a work (Oh Hi Wayne Family Adventure and Red Hood: Outlaw) count me out…triply so if he’s shown being addicted to coffee as if there weren’t other better options being the resident coffee drinker of the Batfam *Cough Cough* Babs *Cough*
5) I….actually liked Jon S Kent’s suit he wore in the Bendis Superman run, something that looks like something he’d design since he wasn’t the biggest fan of traditional tights and something that looks distinctively fitting to his personality, but still fitting well with the SuperFam aesthetic. Now if he wore that suit as a kid like say a more immediate upgrade to his iconic sweatshirt and jeans, I’d think it’ll look fantastic on him, as seen in the art request down by @spider-jaysart (My very first one from her btw XD)
Thanks for that @pin-crusher2000
I kinda bit needed that venting lol
