My Best Friend
Heather knocked on the front door of Will’s enormous mansion. The porch lights shone on her grim expression as she waited for a butler or some other person to answer. Conveniently it was Will himself, which only happened whenever he was bored and did things on his own rather than rely on someone else. How noble of him. “HEATHER BEATHER!!” The rich dork exclaimed and gave her a big, tight hug. “This is going to be great! We’ve been waiting for super smash brothers for so long and now— oh— OHHH!! And don’t worry!! I bought a copy for you too! Because, ya know? You’re my best pal and all, so here you go!!” Will was absolutely overjoyed to give his best buddy in the whole world a copy of one of his new favorite games. Heather, on the other hand, lowered her eyes as she was given the present. A game? Will gave her a game. Pathetic. The grip she had on the small game container was vicious. This entire situation was a huge joke to her. This wasn’t the only game dear old Will was playing. Heather didn’t say a word as she followed Will to his “game room” filled with computers and random nerdy items. Everything was in it’s rightful place— probably thanks to his maids and butlers. “OKIE DOKIE! GET OUT YOUR 3DS! IT’S TIME TO SMA- Heather??” Will tilted his head as Heather threw the game to the ground. “Hey, ummmm, you alright there???” He questioned with a worried expression and gulped. His best friend would never act so violently. There was definitely something wrong. Heather was always so….calm and kind. “You idiot…” Heather mumbled while squeezing the sides of her long, flowing flower printed dress. “You’re so disgusting,” she continued to mumble. Will walked closer to her and placed his hands on her shoulders, “Hey, I can’t hear you, ya know? Yo-you’re worrying me to deaf,” he tried not to laugh out loud at his own pun, but before he could even think of saying something else, Heather grabbed his hands then squeezed them so tight it felt like she was about to break them off. “This isn’t…FUCKING FUNNY!” She pushed Will away and he made a small “Oof!” while landing on the ground. “He-Heather??” He frowned with his bruised hands close to his chest. Who was this girl? This wasn’t his best friend forever. “Shut up! SHUT UP, WILL!” Heather screamed at the innocent boy and slammed her fist to the wall, the wind around her whirling like a mini tornado. “You think you’re so funny! Your life is so damn perfect! Well mine isn’t! Mine is a living hell!” She yelled and began to pace the room, a gust of wind following her violent arms swinging. “I hate my powers! I hate my life! I HATE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS! HAVING POWERS RUINED MY ENTIRE FUCKING LIFE AND YOU JOKE ABOUT HOW MUCH FUN IT IS! DO YOU THINK IT’S FUN TO WRECK THIS CITY IN THE NAME OF “JUSTICE”?! DO YOU LOVE KNOWING YOU CAN’T SAVE EVERYONE? YOU’RE A JOKE, WILL! YOU’RE SO STUPID IT’S SHOCKING TO ME! YOU TREAT EVERYTHING LIKE A GIANT GAME, BUT IT’S NOT! THIS IS REAL LIFE, ASSHOLE! PEOPLE ARE DYING AND LOSING LOVED ONES AND YOUR IDEA OF MAKING UP FOR THAT IS IGNORING IT AND PLAYING SHITTY VIDEOGAMES! YOU’RE DISGUSTING, WILL! YOU’RE SO SELFISH! SO FUCKING SELFISH!” Heather screeched at her childhood friend and braced herself for dear life. She was so damn upset. Her chest felt like it was going to cave in and her stomach was filled with butterflies. Will continued to sit on the ground, completely shocked as he watched his precious friend rant to his face. He had never seen her so upset before. Never. “Hea-” “SHUT THE FUCK UP! I DON’T CARE, WILL! I DON’T CARE ANYMORE! YOU’RE NOT MY FRIEND! YOU’RE A MONSTER! YOU DON’T TAKE ANY OF THIS SERIOUSLY AND I’M LEFT ALONE HAVING TO FEEL GUILTY FOR EVERYONE! DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW MUCH I HATE MYSELF?! THESE POWERS?! WHILE YOU ALL PARTY I CRY EVERY FUCKING NIGHT FOR EVERYONE BECAUSE I’M THE ONLY ONE WHO CARES ABOUT THE PEOPLE IN THIS CITY! I HATE EVERYONE! I HATE THE CORPORATION! I HATE ASHE! I HATE THE GANG! I HATE SALEM! I HATE THE MOTHERFUCKING ALIENS! I HATE BEN! I HATE EVERYONE ON OUR TEAM! I- I-” Heather tried to scream through her tears, but that wasn’t the main thing holding her back. It was what she was about to say. “I HATE YOU, WILL! I HATE YOU SO MUCH! HAVING TO SMILE AND NOD MY HEAD AT EVERY STUPID THING YOU SAY WHEN YOU SHOULD BE SERIOUS! YOU ALWAYS CRACK A JOKE WHEN SOMEONE GETS HURT! YOU DON’T CARE ABOUT ANYONE BUT YOUR OWN FUCKING SELF!” She placed her hands on the sides of her head, a strong wind whipped around her body thanks to her emotions whirling out of control. Will couldn’t do anything but stare at Heather with wide eyes and his mouth open in shock. This was…extremely sad. He had no idea his best friend felt this way. He had no idea she was going through this. It made him extremely sad. “Heather, please don’t say that,” Will spoke softly and slowly stood up while giving her a sad smile. “I don’t hate you, I would never ever hate you…no matter what you say or do,” he reached out to his best pal to give her a tight hug, but she slapped his hands away. “I’m going away,” Heather moved her hands to her sides and took a step back towards the window as the wind around her died down. “Bye, Will. It’s up to you to save everyone now,” she whispered then opened and jumped out the window, the wind taking her back home. Will ran over to the window and held his hand out, “HEATHER! HEATHER!! PLEASE! PLEASE come…back,” he slowly lowered his hand and sinked to the ground. The nerd couldn’t help but cry, snot running down his nose. He wiped the liquids away from his face and sniffled as he looked out the window. “Why? Why didn’t I notice?”
