I can deal with the insane spiky hair and insanely neat curls, but ribbon length ponytails and pigtails... It's so distracting. Not so much that it ruins anime for me, but it definitely does take a lot away from character design for me. Like how the hell can you have full, wavy hair but skinny, teeny tiny little pigtails o_e Like, Chiyo's pigtails somewhat make sense from their size in comparison to the thickness of her hair in Azumanga Daioh. I don't even care about how strangely they're shaped cause it works.
But characters like Maka from Soul Eater, and Shinku from Rozen Maiden. No matter how good those shows are, I hate their hair o_o I don't think it's an unhealthy hatred, just a discomfort, but still. It's distracting!
While I'm at it... Superhero costumes are kind of ugly. The spandex is... disturbing. [Like... I can't help but expect there to be a parody of guys getting stiffies while fighting cause of the clingy clothes, or the girls getting their panties riding up their butts because not only do panties suck, but spandex would just tighten...] I'm definitely with Edna on this, though. [From the Incredibles] Capes are a horrible idea, so in comparison, spandex might be practical for a superhero, but it's still ugly. I don't care how iconic it is, it's hideous.
I feel pretentious writing this down... It's kind of fun, though.
