I got similar shit and yeah, it fucked me up a lot. I remember once when I was working my way out of the faith I said "I don't want to fear satan anymore b/c God is more powerful" & my mother said, "you underestimate Satan" it was fucked up.

Holy shit what???? "I'm not going to spend any more time and energy being afraid of this entity that you've told me repeatedly that God is more powerful than and that the Bible says over and over that I don't need to be afraid of." "Surprise you should still be afraid of him!!! because reasons!!" Yes good A+ logic. (although wouldn't that then be saying Satan is more powerful than God? whatever idk why I'm expecting sound reasoning there)

Your mom sounds a lot like my grandma, my grandma was a huge fan of making absurdly high standards for ""godly"" behavior (which were more often than not actually just things she wanted us to do, like cleaning) and then telling me and my brothers all about how if we didn't live up to them then we weren't worthy of going to heaven, demons would torment us, etc. It was great, really.

fuck doctors, seriously. and yeah, I think it's supposed to be a thing of "if I diagnose you then you'll *really* act all depressed and anxious because reasons" and ugh ugh ugh

UGH I KNOW IT'S SO STUPID. Like, do they think confirming that yes, someone actually has a clinical problem is suddenly going to make the problem worse?? I think they don't realize that mentally disordered people are usually pretty distrustful of their own judgement and that getting a verifiable, on-paper diagnosis can be really validating and helpful. If only because then you actually have proof that it's not just all in your head. Nope, definitely better to ignore your limitations and do positive thinking exercises than suggest that you might be ~~~sick~~~.

(Then again this is the same doctor that, after multiple people at different points in my life suggested I might have Asperger's/autism, told me I couldn't possibly have it because "you have friends", so I'm not sure what I was expecting. I've done some more research on ADHD and autism and I think ADHD is probably much more likely in my case, but that is not a reason to rule out autism.)

But yeah doctors need to get their shit together.

I was constantly anxious about church b/c every week was "here is what you should be doing to be a RTC" & I was still working on "living out" everything from previous sermons & would just et completely overwhelmed & suicidal.

Yeah, that describes pretty much everything about my church experience from high school. I made some good friends there, but the obsessive focus on "living out the Gospel" and being a True Believer so you could maximize your chances of not going to hell, compounded with the fact that if your friends went to hell it was your fault for not converting them in time, but God's really a loving God we promise it's just that your friends obviously chose to go to hell, was... not good for me. Anxiety Spirals of Doom were common occurrences.

Yeah. Haven't gotten that far on this watch through. I'm in the episode where Willow first tells Buffy she's in a relationship with Tara.

It seems like a pretty plausible idea. I think the idea that magic is addictive pretty much sucks. Keep its effects limited? Sure, no problem. Addictive? Not cool.

Ooooh, Portland is nice. Though I've only lived here two and a half months, so I guess I can't really say.

I hope it's awesome as all get out. My awesome uncle lives there and like some supermajority of all the writers in one of my genres plus more anarchists, communists, and queer people than like anywhere. Or so the internet has led me to believe.

On the other hand, it's painfully close to some shenanigans the cops have been doing to the anarchists etc.
