importance of good lyrics for a super hit song
u enjoy the song when u r happy, but u understand the lyrics when u r sad! aint that a terrible cliche?
Songs are a great way of distressing ourselves. On our way back from work we usually turn on our favorite radio channel or play our favorite record on the car’s music player. When we are happy we usually hum our favorite songs. Now the question that arises is what makes the song our favorite? Is it the band? Is it the title of the song? Is it the artist? Is it the lyrics? Or is the genre of the composition? Even bigger question what makes the song a super hit? This is generally forgotten because usually the super hit song turns out to be our favorite one.
We all agree that a hit song is one that grabs our attention the very first time we hear it and as we hear it over and over again we start to mindlessly hum it when we are in a shower, in our vehicle, or even while walking our dog.
A particular song is termed a super hit if the record company makes millions out of its sales. It is usually heard on every radio station, it invariably is on everybody’s iPod.It definitely will be in the top 10 blockbuster list. But do the songwriters know that their song is going to be a hit? No, because there are a lot of variables that make a song a super hit. One major factor required for the song to reach the billboard top would be lyrics, and good lyrics at that. Sometimes lyricists try to make their creation a hit by writing a hook in the song. But folks this doesn’t work majority of the time. As the hook may seem irrelevant or it may end up making the song lame, as the entire effort will be on making the hook better rather than the whole lyrics.
The catchier the lyrics the more super hit the song may become. A catchy lyric doesn’t mean hifi words, which the listener can’t follow, or some tedious sentence formations. Simply put a catchy lyric can be written or can be based on some mundane stuff that you do all the time in everyday life. But the creativity of the lyric composition is what that makes the song a favorite amongst the others in the market.
Sometimes even the most simple seeming lyrics become super hit when sung by a particular artist, or sometimes the music accompanying the song makes it a hit. An average seeming lyric can be made a super hit if it has the right combination of artist and musical melody. Sometimes a song becomes a super hit because the audience can relate to the lyrics. This happens if you write about your own experiences or other people’s experiences as this kind of creation usually allow the listeners to relate to the emotions in the song. Sometimes it maybe as trivial a reason as the lyric is easy to follow.
Even the theme of the song or the written lyrics sometimes matters a lot. If it’s written for an occasion or for an event or in response for something that happened. If the theme is relating to a event that is going maybe sporting event or a political event or even a religious thing, good creative lyrics always win over the hearts of people and make you name and money.
It all boils down to the creativity of the lyricist. The more songs you write the more practice you get, and the more the practice, the more potential lyrics you can produce. Another way at looking at it is that you are bound to get a lyric that becomes a super hit if you write a hundred.
