"Okay, I'm definitely taking a break." Jaein announced as One started playing again, for the nth time on that day. "Anyone wants something from the cafeteria?"
"I think we can take some few minutes off..." the choreographer said, watching her going in the direction of her Versace gym bag on the corner of the room.
"No." six men answered her, laying on the floor.
"I'd like some juice." Taemin said, cleaning the sweat on his forehead. Jaein stopped her movements and looked at him with a bored face. "An orange juice, sorry." he asked, nervously giggling.
They had worked with Jaein in various moods - when she was sad because she fought with Jaebeom, when she was worried about something, angry, too happy, too excited, too tired - but never with a Jaein on a strict diet, and that was being almost as if they were paying for their sins.
She wasn't screaming with them, or joking, or being annoying, quite the opposite, she was quiet. And a quiet Jaein is always something to worry.
"Do you want me to go with you?" Ten kindly offered, too afraid to get closer to the lion.
"No, it's fine." Jaein answered him smiling and then lowered her tone. "Just... try to distract the choreographer, and I'll give you that hat I told you about."
"Sounds good enough to me." Ten said, giggling, and proceeded to ask something about formation and positions to the dance teacher as Jaein left the room, sighing.
The last time she had to go through such a strict diet, was when she was promoting Red Flavor and it was for health purposes, not because Lee Sooman woke up one day and decided that she had to.
Jaein looked at the restaurant across the street, where she'd be heading to if it wasn't for the regime and felt her stomach growling just for remembering the taste of their grilled meat. Unlike she wanted to, she turned to her left and went to SM's cafeteria.
She fixed the hat and the mask on her face as it had more people than in the regular days, and headed straight to the cashier, order her drinks.
"Good evening, Ms Jaein." the woman, Jiyoo as long as she could remember, greeted her with a smile. "The same as always?"
"Sadly, no." Jaein sadly answered her. "I'd like an orange juice and a diet cold latte, please."
"Diet?" the woman asked her, checking if what she heard was real.
"Yep, diet." Jaein mumbled, appreciating all those beautiful bread, cakes and candies on display. She paid for the drinks and went to an empty table to wait for her number.
Before sitting, she patted her pockets to grab her phone, but it was empty. She patted her front pockets and the ones inside her jacket, but it was also empty. Great, now all she had to do was wait for her order, looking at the space.
It didn't take too long until her boredom was interrupted by someone calling her name. Jaein looked up, thinking it'd be her drinks but was surprised by a girl apprehensively smiling.
"Hi, Ja-Jaein s-sunbaenim." the girl said, unable to look at Jaein.
"NingNing!" Jaein said, beaming at the girl. "How have you been?"
"I'm fine, thanks..." NingNing said, hiding her red cheeks. "I'm so sorry for disturb you, but I'd like to know if my members and I can sit here with you. The whole place is full."
Jaein looked around shocked and then nodded. She hadn't realised how many people were there.
"Sure! You know you didn't even have to ask." she assured the girl.
"Oh, thank you." NingNing chuckled. "I'll be right back."
Nodding, Jaein watched as she left the cafeteria, probably going to tell her members.
NingNing was one of the few trainees Jaein had mentored and, if that was one thing Jaein could say, was that the girl was born to be an artist. She reminded Jaein of her days as a trainee and, watching her coming back with her members was like having a vision of Jaein and the girls when they had the news about Red Velvet.
She suddenly missed being on stage with them as six again.
"Hi, girls!" Jaein greeted the other three girls as they bowed at her.
"Hi!" they said together, still standing. Jaein giggled and pointed at the empty chairs.
"You guys can sit." she said still giggling. The girls nervously chuckled and took their seats. One of the girls, Jimin, moved her chair a bit away from Jaein. "Oh, come on! I'm not Sooman..."
Laughing at herself, Jimin put her chair back next to Jaein and sat down.
"So," Jaein decided to take the first step, tilting her nails on the table. "tell me about your debut. Are you guys nervous? Do you already have your positions, stage names?"
"We do..." one of the girls, Minjeong, answered, pointing at each of them. "I'm Winter. Jimin unnie is Karina and Aeri unnie is Giselle."
"And NingNing?"
"NingNing!" the girl excited answered, making Jaein laugh.
"I see." Jaein nodded. "Do you know who's the leader already?"
"I am." Jimin raised her hand. "And, sunbaenim, I don't know if this is polite, but would you give us some tips? We're so nervous, and you're like, the model artist for us."
"Really? Me?" Jaein said, smiling at them. They nodded, and Jaein puffed. "Stop it!"
"Really!" Giselle said, laughing with them.
"I mean..." Jaein said, smirking and taking a deep breath, trying to think about the right word to tell them. "First of all, call me unnie. 'Sunbaenim' makes me look like a grandma." the girls laughed. "And, if it were other times, I'd say things like 'enjoy yourself', or, 'be yourself on stage', but sadly, all I can say is, be ready."
The girls pouted and nodded, acknowledging her point.
"Be mentally and psychically ready." Jaein continued. "Mentally because, I'm sorry for being too honest, but the media is like a starving monster that craves for any flaw. And psychically because this is only the beginning."
"You're right." Winter mumbled.
"I'm not trying to scare you or make you think that this is the end of your lives, but I do want you guys to know that it does not mean that you come from a big company that you'll have everything won. And, to not make this any bored than it is, just keep in mind all the things you've been through to be here today."
Jaein wrapped her speech with a sweet smile on her face, to assure the girls that she'd be there for them without really saying it out loud.
"Thanks, sunb-" Jimin stopped and corrected herself. "unnie."
Taking a glance to the cafeteria counter, she saw her drinks getting placed on a tray and, next, her number showed up on the small tv monitor above it.
"I think I'll get going because I'm starving." Jaein got up and felt her stomach growling. "Oh, one last thing! Don't ever agree on going on a diet except it is for health reasons. Do you promise me?"
The teenagers laughed at her and nodded.
"We do." they said.
"Okay." Jaein winked at them. "Now, wish me luck to face more two hours of rehearsing."
"Fighting, unnie!" the girls showed her a closed fist, cheering her up.
"Thanks, girls!"
Taking her drinks and waving the last goodbye for the girls, Jaein followed her path back to the dance studio again, hoping Ten did his part and distracted the teacher.
She closed her eyes and took a deep breath before opening the door, forcing a smile to her members.
"Finally! I thought you were planting the oranges." Taemin complained, taking his juice. "You took almost an hour."
"Shut up." Jaein susurrate at him in an angry tone and then looked to her other members, beaming at them.
"Okay, let's go back to where we stopped." the teacher said, calling their attention.

"In one, two and go."
The choreographer counted and started the song, running back to the front of the room to see all the trainees.
From all the years she was training, Jaein never saw so many people in a single practice room like that day. At first, she liked the idea of making a special performance to celebrate SM's anniversary, but they took it too strictly.
It was a simple but repetitive dance what makes it even tiring than a regular dance, but just the fact that she'd go home earlier made it worthy.
"Stop!" the teacher screamed, making the trainees stop. "Front line, try to spread your arms more. We’re talking about flying, so try to emphasize this move, including you Jaein-ssi."
Jaein nodded and cleaned the sweat on her forehead, breathing hard. One of the mentors knocked on the door and called the teacher, saying it was a bit important.
"I’m gonna have to be out for some minutes." the man said, taking his typical clipboard with him. "Seulgi," he called the girl, who raised her hand. "can you do the counting while I’m out?"
"Sure, teacher." she nodded.
When he left the room, Seulgi did what she was told to and restarted the counting again.
As the choreographer told her, when it was time, Jaein spreaded her arm. But the back of her fist hitted something and she heard a loud groan behind her, making the girl jump in surprise.
When Jaein looked down, she saw Jongin on the ground and groaning as he placed a hand between his legs. Just like everyone else, Jaein was looking at him without knowing what to do and with a shocked face.
She had never, ever, hit someone in that area before - just her brother but they were playing and she didn’t realise. The other trainees got divided in helping the boy and trying to assure Jaein he’d be fine.
And then, the reality hit her. She could get expelled for that.
"I’m sorry!" Jaein said, trying to get closer to the boy but his groan made her step back.
"Are you okay, hyung?" Johnny said, trying to help the boy stand up.
"Jaein-ah!" Jogin said, furious, making the girl flinch. "Really? Can’t you see me?"
"Okay! Let’s-" the teacher stopped halfway when he saw the whole scene. He took a deep breath and placed a hand on his hips. Of course that would happen. "Who’s gonna be the first one to say what is going on?"
"She hit me on that part." Jongin said, pointing at Jaein.
"Teacher, it was an accident." Somi, who was watching everything, tried to intervene.
"I was dancing and you sir told me to spread my arms more. I did it but I didn’t see he was behind me." Jaein tried to explain herself, tripping over her own words and even stuttering.
"Of course she saw me!" Jongin argued, and that started a whole debate.
"Calm down, everyone. Calm down!" the man said, making everyone shut up. "Both of you, to Mr. Yoo office. Right now."
Mr. Yoo was no one else than the head mentor, responsible for supervising all the trainees and, if anyone violates any rules, he was the one in charge to decide if that someone was getting expelled or not. Meeting him was like meeting an angry father.
Jaein puffed and followed her way to his office, without even looking up at Jongin, who was acting the same way as her.
She didn’t have anything against him and she thought he was a really cool person, although she could notice how jealous he’d be whenever she was around Taemin, after all, he was his best friend. But she never thought he was like that.
Knocking twice, they heard his voice telling them to come in. When he looked up and saw them, he smirked.
"You too?" he asked and the trainees nodded, taking their seats in front of him. "What happened this time?"
"She hit me on that part." Jongin said again.
"And I also said I was sorry and he started screaming at me." Jaein pouted, crossing her arms.
.Mr. Yoo, quite the opposite of what they were thinking, started to laugh. The two trainees looked at each other and frowned.
"Are you serious with me right now?" he asked and they agreed. "You came all the way from the third floor just to tell me this?"
Looking at the two teens in his room, Mr. Yoo just shook his head. So young and already so impatient with each other.
"She was clearly seeing me through the mirror and yet punched me." Jongin tried to convince the man.
"I already told you I am sorry!" Jaein exclaimed.
"Not ‘you’, ‘oppa’!" he corrected her.
"Of course," she ironically said. "I forgot you were born at the Stone Age."
He puffed and rolled his eyes at her.
"Is this how you were taught to teach the older people?" he said, offended.
"The boring ones, yes." she answered.
"Let’s keep our nerves down, you’re too stressed because of nothing." Mr. Yoo said, leaning on his table. "Jaein, you were wrong to punch him. Jongin, you were wrong to not accept her apologies if she says she didn’t mean to hit you."
The two trainees were sulking and had their faces turned around, not looking at each other.
"I’m not expelling, either punishing any of you because this is a stupid situation." the man kept saying. "Now, you’re wasting my time here. Go back to the practice class, with a smile on your faces because you still have a long day ahead."
He indicated the door and they got up, bowing at the man and leaving the office in complete silence.
When they got in front of the dance practice, they looked at each other and rolled their eyes, getting inside the room together with a big forced smile on their faces.

I started training back in 2006 when I was 7 years old and stood beside SM Entertainment and Lee Sooman for all these years.
Everything I know today, I owned the people in SM, the mentors and teachers, who helped me.
I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Red Velvet, my Red Velvet members and Reveluvs, and I would never choose to go solo instead of staying with them.
I got to work with the amazing producers of Capitol through SuperM, and it's been an amazing journey since then. I'm going to have my solo works managed by Capitol Records alongside with SM, but please, don't worry about Red Velvet. I would never, ever, ever, give up on you.
I'm so sorry for keeping you in the dark for these days, but I promise great things are to come.
