anyway, jo loves a lot of people and she cares very easily so honestly you could talk to her like 3 times and she probably loves you but
1. shilah -- i know noel and i have a couple verses where they’re shipped together so i guess this is kind of cheating but! in most verses they are entirely platonic even if they do toe that line and shilah is, without a doubt, one of the great loves of jo’s life?? they met at a time when josephine’s life was very tumultuous -- she’d just been introduced to the purifiers, her brother had been taken by them, she was in the process of trying to find him on her own without any outside help and without the help of the brotherhood or anyone at westchester -- and shilah helped her, no questions asked? loyalty is very important to josephine, and so is helping those in need, and he did both of those things without thinking twice about it and honestly, since then, he’s become one of her best friends. she trusts him so much it makes me so sad and she loves him and wants him to be happy and noel and i have a very true but long-running joke that the only person who could ever handle him in any sense is jo and you know what, it’s true. 2. elliot -- josephine doesn’t have any siblings (that she knows of) but she’s considered elliot a brother for so long that it’s almost as if she does? they met at westchester when they were both new and very young and impressionable and searching for someone to connect with and i think that, for all they’re different, elliot brings out the best in her? he keeps her honest and soft and reminds her of her humanity, in a way, and i think it’s very important for her to have that sort of person in her life. she considers a lot of people family, but i think elliot has always been at the top of that list.3. lance & luz -- also two people who have been in her life since westchester and because they’re all three a part of the brotherhood, they’ve been such influential and huge parts of her life, though in very different ways?? i think they’re sort of a natural yin and yang to one another and they act as that for josephine, too. lance reminds her of the good she’s capable of, much like elliot, and luz is there to remind her of what she’s capable of when she lets go of that. which isn’t always a bad thing, but very often is; i think her feelings toward luz are complicated and always will be complicated but it doesn’t lessen her love for her, either.4. raven -- it’s no secret that josephine adores raven and while i think a lot of that is hero worship, her feelings for her are very genuine. she views raven as a maternal figure, even if neither of them are very keen to admit it, and raven has influenced a lot of josephine’s decisions and really shaped a lot of the person josephine is today. like with luz, her feelings toward her are very complicated and not easily sorted into one particular category but what always stands out to me the most regardless of any interactions i have with lily is how much she does love raven, and it comes from a very genuine, warm place and, ultimately, she’d like to give raven a reason to be proud of her.5. julie -- jo loves julie so much?? i could cry about it?? she feels so protective of her and wants her to be happy and wants to support her in any way she can and it’s a very pure, almost maternal, sort of love? she looks at julie like a friend but also like a little sister who she needs to look out for and josephine would do anything for her if julie asked, regardless of what it was. all she would have to do is ask.
