A friend just asked "how are you?"
The answer was probably more than she bargained for:
"We're expecting about 15 inches of snow. I hope. I could use the time off school.
Teaching in a pandemic in an ass-backward state is no fun. In the last three weeks, schools in the state have banned books, the state Attorney General has sued 45 schools for mask mandates, and there's a new piece of legislation up that if it passes makes my job obsolete since I wouldn't be allowed to discuss other cultures with students. That would make teaching Spanish difficult...
In the last three weeks 1/4 of my students have been out with covid, but we don't mask or have set quarantine rules. There are not enough subs to cover teacher illness.
When I say my school was vibrating yesterday at the potential of a possible snow day, just to be away from the building, I'm not kidding.
If our a$$hole superintendent hadn't canceled last night, I think the teachers were ready to revolt.
I keep repeating "i can retire in 6 years, I can retire in 6 years"
If you have teacher friends, check on them. We are not okay.
Find out who delivers to your kids' school and send their teachers a thank you treat. They need it.
In simple terms, I'm surviving a pandemic"
