Smoke escaped from the detective's mouth as he exhaled, dark eyes sliding to the side as he noticed the new person coming towards him. Kogami was blowing off steam after the frustrating encounter with his new roommate, and wasn't really up for talking to any strangers, so he didn't exactly welcome their approach with open arms. But he didn't ignore them
♥ Cassette Tape: My good friends know that I’ve never tried a boysenberry. Write a drabble about our muses getting to know each other better!
"I'm looking for Shinichi Kudou... is he around?"
C-ta looks up, and true enough, he's sitting exactly where you'd expect to find the person Keisuke is looking for. That is, by the water cooler, slacking off because he has nothing to do when said man isn't around and giving him work to do, given that he's his apprentice and learning under him, but that's really not the point. Tilting his head, he discards his cup to the desk beside the cooler as to not be ignorant, and speaks up;
"He's actually on sick leave right now, do you need to pass a message onto him?"
The teen falters, looking kind of embarrassed to be here when the one he's requesting isn't even in the building. Where does he go from here? Is he supposed to just leave and come back another time -- but when? Should he ask that or will he sound too nosy on the other's personal life? It's silly, all he wanted to do was catch up with someone who had asked him out on a date one time; he'd felt it was sort of enlightening, and to not talk to the detective again after that made him feel guilty. Coming to meet him whilst he was at work might have been the least responsible action, now that he thinks about it, but he's not here, so at least he's relieved of that feeling. Buttering up that relief, he shakes his had.
"No, it's fine, I'll come back at another time, so--"
"Are you an ex?"
"-- Wh.. what...?!"
"Am I wrong? You're blushing..."
He was blu-- since when? Raising a hand to his cheeks, he presses his fingers to the burning of his skin, acknowledging how this must look to the younger looking brunet. No-- this is all a misunderstanding, it must have been a side effect of thinking about their date, or the embarrassment, or both of them together, and aah, he wasn't even that easily embarrassed, so it must be the shame making things even worse. Scoffing, he adjusts his glasses to cover up his actions, shaking his head.
"We're nothing like that." Keisuke replies, almost strictly. C-ta remains inquisitive, but otherwise expressionless and merely listening. "He's a friend, and I'm not blushing." But then he cracks a grin, and suddenly it feels as though he's only getting redder.
"Honestly."
"I believe you."
"That's a lie. Who are you? To ask a question like this, are you close with him?"
"Ah... that's... I'm an ex, maybe?"
There's the most horrified of silences between them, the horror in Keisuke's expression -- possibly at the youth's obvious aim at appaling him -- and C-ta letting the silence drag on, before he starts to chuckle.
"It's a joke. No, we're nothing like that, he's training me here. I'm C-ta, it's nice to meet you...?"
He's mocking him. He's definitely mocking him, saying that right after pulling a move like that, and even then, to repeat his words in denial just as he had, he finds it hard to want to give this man his name after being so clearly teased.
"....... Keisuke."
And somehow, C-ta had managed to coerce him into having coffee together in the staff room.
lol you get short drabblse SIN CE YOU SENT ME LIKE 5
Waffles: Write a drabble about either of our muses making breakfast for the other.
"Hey, Keisuke, I made french toast."
"You didn't have to..."
"I felt like it! Come on, we haven't eaten breakfast together since middle school, and the middle school breakfasts sucked."
There's silence for a moment, before Keisuke gives a quiet nod of appreciation, and dips a french toast strip into syrup, and takes a bite. Suddenly, he remembers something.
Atsuro can't cook.
Noodles: Write a drabble about our muses helping each other study. Better use those noodles of yours!
"Wait, so the Mongols weren't bad people?"
"Well... Sort of. They pillaged villages, killed people, conquered and spread their empire mostly through regions being scared of them killing all their people off, so they just submitted--"
"They don't sound like good people at all, Keisuke!"
"They reopened trade on the Silk Road and helped spread a lot of culture."
"Didn't the Black Plague spread through the Silk Road, though?"
"... I'm sorry, but weren't you the one who asked me to help?"
"Oh-! Er, yeah... Sorry."
Doughnut: Write a drabble about your muse experiencing a certain emptiness in their life, even with people around them. Is it something that my muse can help with?
The quiet boy had been even more quiet as of late. He wasn't his usual self, usually able to squeeze a minuscule smile a couple of times throughout the day, but... he was just solemn.
The darker-haired brunet stops him on their way to the academy, gently putting a hand on his friend's shoulder to get his attention.
"What's up, man?"
Keisuke looks off, downcast, and shuffles his feet in his place timidly. After a long moment, he finally decides to reply, softly. "Ah... It's just that-- Well, my little sister's birthday today, and I'm not back in Tokyo."
Atsuro's eyes light up at the mention of the girl, and he smiles. "Oh, yeah, I remember her! Hey, don't you worry, okay? We can send her cards or something. They'd get there late, but... it'll be fun, and she'll love it. Come on, let's go ask the art teacher for ideas!"
Peanuts: Write about our muses traveling to a far off place together via plane; complimentary peanuts and drink available.
"I've never been to America before."
"Me neither. It's really something that we happened to be going at the same time."
"On the same flight, no less, haha!"
Atsuro leans away from his window seat to turn to Keisuke, a bright smile on his lips. His parents, for once, took him overseas for the next year, and Keisuke had been offered abroad schooling in America, and the two reunited on Flight Something-Or-The-Other.
"Is your English any good, Atsuro?"
"Guess we'll find out."
McDonalds: Write a drabble about our muses heavily re-evaluating their life choices and future dreams. Perhaps they need to talk about it together?
Atsuro had been surfing the web (as usual) when his phone vibrates. He picks it up, expecting it to be Kazuya, and he's about to give his usual greeting to the other, until a soft voice greets him on the other line.
"Atsuro? It's me, Keisuke."
Blinking, Atsuro has to recover from the little surprise. Keisuke hardly called him, if ever. He can't even recall a time in middle school he hadn't called regarding something about school, and they were well out of that phase now.
"Oh, hey, Keisuke. What's up?"
There's a pause, and Atsuro's about to repeat his question in case it didn't carry over, but the other soon replies.
"I... I don't think I want to be a policeman anymore."
"Huh? Why's that? It's all you talked about in middle school."
"Yeah, I know, but... I don't know, Atsuro. I don't think it's fit for me."
He fidgets, wondering what he could possibly say back, and leans back against his computer chair, the chair squeaking loudly as he did so.
"How's this? Let's meet at Denny's -- or wherever you wanna meet at, and we'll talk. I've thought about career-changes too. It's college, after all, haha."
