Cincinnati Girls 'Dance For Tomorrow' & Raise $8,000 for Malala Fund
Here at the Malala Fund, we receive an outpouring of support in the most interesting and thoughtful ways—portraits, murals, evennaming an asteroid after Malala. Each Friday, we're sharing some of our favorite stories, letters, or projects that showcase the amazing and creative ways our followers express their support in a feature we like to call "Supporter Spotlight."
How cool is this? A group of Indian-American girls from Cincinnati, Ohio are using their summer vacations and passion for dance to put the spotlight on the global issues they care about.
Earlier this month, their organization Dance For Tomorrow put together "Speak: For the Malala Fund," a dance show to help raise funds for girls' education around the world.
Watch a dance segment performed at the show here:
"Malala Yousafzai proved that it only take one voice to reach one million, and we want to join her movement to provide education to these 66 million women and girls," said Dance for Tomorrow on its website.
The girls behind Dance For Tomorrow -- Srishti Kapur, 18; Pratiti Ghosh-Dastidar, 18; Shruti Ratnaparkhi, 18; Sachika Singh, 16; and Sohini Das, 16 -- raised around $8,000 for Malala Fund in a nearly sold-out show.
The girls were overwhelmed by the support of the community. "Everyone, friends, teachers, people we haven't seen in so long came out for the show," they shared.
The event helped them connect to Malala's issue on an even deeper level.
"We hadn't really questioned our education," said Srishti. "We just received it from our parents. They gave us backpacks and sent us to school. We didn't really have to work for it. But in the world, some people have to."
Now that summer is over, where are these talented girls off to?
Three are headed to college. Shruti is going to George Washington University to study international affairs. Srishti is studying pre-med at Washington University in St. Louis. And Pratiti is studying biochemistry at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
Girls, keep on dancing -- and keep on fighting for girls' education! We are grateful to have such incredible young women supporting Malala.

Dubfest 2012
Our generous supporters never cease to amaze us, and we can’t help but share with you their passion and creativity. We’re inspired. You should be, too.
This spring a few students from Downington High School East in Exton, Pennsylvania hosted DUBFEST 2012: Dance for a Change, to fundraise for IC. Dubstep is all the rage right now (a genre of electronic dance music) and senior Matt Rondos, Schools for Schools club member Allie Hoffman, and others took it upon themselves to organize and DJ this event. With over 250 tickets sold, students danced the night away, all the while helping to change lives in Central Africa. Props to you guys, your creative support makes what we do possible. Stop at nothing.
