why am i seeing people put down MALALA in Greta Thunbergs name? MALALA YOUSAFZAI. MALALA. don't get me wrong, i love Greta. but why are we saying that MALALA is a fake activist who doesn't deserve respect?
this video i'm watching claims Malalas activism is only self serving. i'm sorry, the woman who as a YOUNG GIRL was so selfless she put her own life in immense danger and ended up getting shot in the head to try to get every girl in Pakistan the right to education. Malala who is still working on projects, going to conferences, being outspoken.
this video is saying that Malala is a fake activist because she's focusing on projects that don't put her directly in harms way. god forbid a woman who was nearly killed by being shot in the head by the Taliban AS A CHILD be scared of other life or death experiences.
this video is calling MALALA YOUSAFZAI an "embarrassment". an embarrassment. Malala. let that sink in.
even if Malala decided she never wanted to be political or partake in activism ever again, her contribution would have been more than enough. Malala should be regarded for the rest of her life as a hero. but she's still doing stuff! the Malala Fund continues to support girls' educations. she just invested $3 million to fight for women's right to education in Afghanistan. she founded an initiative to support women and girls in sports called Recess. she's advocating to end child marriage in Nigeria. she just opened a girls school in Pakistan. to claim that Malala has given up activism or that her activism is "self serving" is utterly ridiculous and disgusting.
Malala was shot at 15. she survived an attempted assassination at 15. if she wanted to lead a quiet, unremarkable life for the rest of her days, i would support her. her contributions to feminism and women's rights have already been so incredible.
also, this is not a competition! both Greta and Malala can be fantastic activists! it's not a competition!!!
well, that's that. women can literally never do enough. women could literally be Malala Yousafzai and people will still say we aren't good enough, we aren't doing enough. we're praising Pedro Pascal for like, one tweet, but we're cancelling Malala Yousafzai. you can literally be Malala Yousafzai and they'll still say you're not doing enough.
i stand with Malala. i remember being little and learning about her and reading her book as soon as it came out. she's been my hero since i was a little girl. i never thought i'd see the day we were calling MALALA YOUSAFZAI a fake activist, but i for one am on her side. i fucking love you Malala, nothing could change that
