I love buying locally sourced products from around the world. As a consumer I try to shop as ethically as possible. All of the goods sold at Lekki Arts & Crafts Market are made by locals, I am more than happy to buy into and support fair trade. This shop owners name is Atikah translated as ‘of pure heart’. He was genuinely such a lovely human being, I literally bought every colour of Waist beads (Ileke) that he had on for sale. The outfit I’m wearing was also purchased from local dress makers. In light of #internationalwomensday we will be sharing images of the inspiring women behind our hand painted doorstops. • We often get asked about how and where the Wedgies are produced. Wedgie is proud to be part of a FairTrade certified incentive scheme based in Sri Lanka aimed at the empowerment of women based in rural areas of the country. • Unpainted door-stops alongside paints, designs and brushes are delivered directly to women's homes in villages throughout Sri Lanka. Once painted, the Wedgies are then collected and payments made directly at the same time. This allows women the convenience of earning an income whilst going about their daily routines at home. • Each Wedgie purchased is therefore making a direct impact on these women's lives. #shopsmart #supportfairtrade #huntoutthehandmade meetthewedgies.com
