Although The University of Melanin tshirts are available online, this one was especially for me. I did a lot of research on the names you’re reading on the back of my shirt. All 105 names are black people killed by police officers in the past decade. All unarmed. Ages range as low as 7 months old. Some names I never even heard of. I read dozens and dozens of stories, wishing there was something I could do. Peoples lives taken away from them for the most idiotic reasons. It’s sad. Unfortunately there are hundreds more, and I could never fit them all onto the back of one shirt. As a part of Black History month, pick a name a day, google them and read their story. This is what The University of Melanin is about, educate yourself, support people like you. Supporting those who support you. Black History month doesn’t only have to be about events that happened years ago, or who created what. It’s also about whats activity happening around you. Celebrating each other currently.
