Supreme X Lacoste
Supreme Fall/Winter ‘19 - Week 5
Today at 11am marked the 5th week of Supreme’s Fall/Winter 2019 releases. Prior to week 5, Supreme hasn’t really released anything noteworthy this season. For example, during week 4’s release on September 19th, most of the items on the brand’s website remained in stock even days after their release, indicating a loss of consumer interest in the brand. This loss in interest could stem from Supreme’s stagnant creative design that bores consumers, and a lack of significant collaborations with other brands. Such loss in interest from consumers threatens a decline in the brand’s popularity. However, this week’s releases might just have re-kindled consumer interest as we have just seen Supreme’s first major brand collaboration this season. “Supreme has teamed with renowned sportswear brand Lacoste for a limited-edition capsule that’s sure to be one of the most sought-after collabs of the season” (Langston, 2019, para. 1). Featuring a wool jacket, a messenger bag, an iconic hoodie with merged branding, and various shirts and accessories; the Lacoste x Supreme collaboration can be considered the highlight of this week’s releases. This Lacoste collaboration serves as Supreme’s first considerable release this season since stock sold out almost instantaneously upon release on the brand’s website. All things considered, Supreme evidently knows how to maintain their relevance and popularity through exciting limited-edition collaborations with other brands to offer a unique approach in the fashion industry. Clearly, Supreme intends to remain a limited and sought-after brand in the industry, and knows how to maintain consumer interest. Supreme’s focus on having their products remain limited and sought-after can also be seen as a contrast from the direction in which Adidas’ Yeezy line is heading in the industry, which I will discuss in another post on my blog soon. Anyways, I’m looking forward to seeing what’s in store from Supreme in week 6. Did you find anything from this week interesting? Let me know, and share my post!
