Pat Curren’s Iconic 1959 Elephant Gun | California Gold Surf Auction 🏄♂️
Pat Curren wasn’t just shaping surfboards — he was crafting survival tools for Waimea Bay. 🌊 This 10’7” balsa elephant gun, built in the late 1990s for collector Tom Peck, carries six redwood stringers, a redwood tailblock, and the classic Volan glass rail lap. Signed by Curren himself, it’s both artifact and weapon, echoing back to 1959 when heavy boards faced heavier waves.
Now, it’s your chance to hold history in your hands. ✨ 👉 California Gold Surf Auction | Oct 4–18, 2025 https://www.thevintagesurfauctions.com/

Few surfboards carry the mythos of Pat Curren’s elephant guns. Purpose-built for Waimea Bay’s raw power, these were more than boards — they were lifelines. The 10’7” balsa now on offer was constructed in the late 1990s for Tom Peck, laminated by Curren himself, and finished with era-true details: six redwood stringers, Volan cloth, a redwood tailblock, and a period-correct fin.
It stands today as one of the finest examples of Curren’s craftsmanship, complete with a signed image of him in the shaping process.
