When Jerry Lopez called Tommy Zahn “the greatest surfer in the world because he dated Marilyn Monroe,” he wasn’t just making a joke — he was nodding to a legend who bridged Hollywood glamour with surfing’s golden age.

Now, Zahn’s personal 1952 Sand Island Boat Works paddle board, hand-built by Honolulu craftsman Teru Funai and painted in Zahn’s signature red, is headed to the California Gold Surf Auction – Fabulous Fall 2025.

This board isn’t just wood and resin — it’s a cultural artifact. Zahn surfed Malibu tandem waves with Marilyn Monroe, pioneered Oahu’s North Shore in the late 1940s, and stood as a lifeguard lieutenant awarded the Medal of Valor. His paddle board carries provenance, photos, and a direct link to the man and his era.

Dick Brewer Surfboards Hawaii Gun – Rare Auction Highlight

This board was specially commissioned by a veteran inspired by an original 1962 Brewer surfboard. With a redwood center stringer, mahogany fin, black rail bands, tapered color accents, and Brewer’s authentic signature, it’s a collector’s dream in near-mint condition.
