Torchbearers BeReal right before Paladin Strait
fraud was great in part because it showed us the fallout of Gabriel’s actions in heaven. in violence we didn’t get much of that which I think worked because violence had a lot of other things to deal with but when you see the Providence’s bio, when you see the power for the first time and it angrily demands where he is, you realize just how reckless Gabriel was
he left immediately after killing the council seemingly just to fight v1 again. v1 helps him develop as a character and gain control over his own will, but how much control does he really have? with his propensity for violence, is he not simply following in the footsteps of his machine to become another one of hell’s playthings? Gabriel is commanded to use violence to send a message when he executes Sisyphus and Minos, and his methods don’t change even after his encounters with v1—he continues to believe that violence is the only way to enact great change, because his fights with v1 are what sparked his desire to act on his own accord. but now heaven is on the verge of civil war, angels are being sent to go look for him and he either doesn’t realize the adverse effects of what he’s done or he doesn’t care
I think it gets a lot clearer in the final section of 8-3, you have the glory/the world looks red motif along with the tree from 7-3 and another power all representing Gabriel, his actions, and what’s going to happen as a result of them. to me the 7-3 tree coming back is especially significant because it represents suicide, and with act 3 being called “godfist suicide” I think it’s definitely pointed at Gabriel in particular
this next part is a bit of a stretch but music also connects 8-3, 7-3, 5-3 and 2-3—you have the 7-3 tree in 8-3, danse macabre has bits of death odyssey and panic betrayer, and of course death odyssey has the panic betrayer motif itself
idk what the motif means exactly. to me those are all important layers because 2-3 is your last chance to wreak havoc on the city of lust before you face its king (along with having the 2-S entrance), 5-3 is where you see the Gabriel hologram, and 7-3 was just an amazing level in general but the final arena with the infighting really shows how far violence has progressed to the point that there is just war for the sake of it
maybe right now Gabriel is contemplating on how he killed Minos and Sisyphus, how he cared for the ferrymen that may have died by V1’s hands, and how he never strayed from the path of violence even when he used it to do what he considered good
it’s a tragedy. Gabriel did something on his own, but it was what hell likely wanted the whole time anyway. he is going to die, he could have dealt with the council any other way, but we all know he was never going to do that
anyway with how relatively chill 8-4 was compared to the rest of fraud maybe 8-3 was meant to hype up treachery along with 8-4. it did definitely feel like that with all the parts of past layers, also 8-4 being called final flight
geryon kind of reminds me of Gabriel in that aspect?? with his final flight down to Hell to fight v1 in treachery. the terminals also say it does mercy kills and mayyyy have made the deathcatchers which were inspired by the idols which were made by the ferrymen to honor heaven and Gabriel so I think you could argue they’re a little similar
i miss gabriel but the powers are SO funny im eternally grateful for them
