Entry #8: Robot AU Contest Fic
Crystal sat in her chair, staring at a computer screen. Upon the screen were three names: “Kotone”, “Gold”, and “Silver”. She remembered these names, the names of her friend, her cousin, and her lover. The names each read as “incomplete” next to each. These were her current experiment.
Years ago, a tragedy had befallen her. She had been badly injured to the brink of death. She had been saved, but at a cost. Her body had been mostly destroyed, and so she had been given a new one. Her mind had been moved to this new body, and for a time, she was happy to be alive. Now, the truth had taken its toll.
She had not aged, looking forever young. Her friend, her cousin, her lover had all aged, dying out over time due to old age. She still lived, trapped in this cold, steel cage that was her body. She had wished to end it all, to free herself from this prison, but she never could. If she damaged her body, it did nothing to end her torment. If she let herself run out of power, someone would simply restore it.
It had been a century since that day, and Crys had become mad with her immortality. “If I am to be trapped in this body, then I shall at least have my friends and family back.” That was her thoughts. She would build them bodies. She would give them life. They were nearly finished. She simply waited now for their minds to be transferred to their new bodies. Crys had built their bodies like her own, using their looks from the time she had gotten her own body. This way, she believed, they could all be forever young together, forever alive, just like her.
The computer beeped, signifying the completion of one. It was Gold, her lover. At long last, she could be with him once more. She only needed to wait for him to awaken now. As his mind fully connected to his new body, his circuits would come to life and he’d awaken.
Gold moved his hand, pulling himself up onto his arms. His eyes opened as he took in what he saw around him. “Where… am I? What happened to me?”
“You’re finally back,” Crys smiled. “You’re finally back.” She hugged him.
“Crystal? What is going on?” Gold turned, seeing the bodies of Kotone and Silver next to him. “Kotone? Silver?”
“I brought you back. I brought you all back. I made you like me, so that we could be together again.”
“You brought us back?” Gold looked down at himself. “I… I’m alive again?”
“Yes, isn’t it wonderful? You and I, we can live together forever now. And soon, Kotone and Silver will be back as well. We can be one big family again.”
An alarm on the computer sounded. Crystal turned to see the error. “W-what? No… no this can’t be…” The alarm blared louder as Crystal stared at the computer. The transfer for the others had been interrupted. A virus had infected them.
Kotone and Silver pulled themselves up to their arms, their eyes glowing a deep red. They turned towards Crystal and she shrieked. “Destroy, destroy,” Silver and Kotone began to repeat.
“No, it wasn’t supposed to end up like this.”
Silver and Kotone moved closer to Crystal and Gold leapt to his feet. He gave Silver a punch to the face, but it was no good. He wasn’t human, and he was out of control.
Silver lunged for Crystal and Gold quickly blocked him. “Go, get out of here!” Gold shouted.
“I can’t leave you behind, not after I had just gotten you back!”
“They’re trying to destroy you. You can’t stay here.” Gold felt Silver strike him repeatedly in the head. “Just go!”
Kotone lunged at Crystal, but she dodged without much difficulty. She had gotten used to using her body, while the others had not. She quickly leapt over Kotone, who had fallen to the ground. “I promise I’ll save you!” Crystal shouted as she rushed out of the room.
Kotone pulled herself back to her feet, and Gold quickly grabbed her by the pigtails and pulled her back. “No you don’t. Don’t even think about it.”
An alarm blared and Gold turned towards the computer. Silver had gotten over to it and had activated the self-destruct on the lab. “Shit!” Gold shouted as he kicked Silver in the head. He rapidly hit keys on the keyboard, but it was to no avail. “Well, shit… Crys, you better get out of here in time…” He grabbed Silver and put him in a headlock. He then grabbed Kotone by the arm and pinned her down. “Thus fucking place is going to explode, and you two aren’t getting out of here.”
Silver struggled against Gold, but he held him tight. Gold sighed, then closed his eyes. “Well, I guess this is it again…”
Crys ran out the door of the lab. She turned around to make sure no one was behind her. Her eyes went wide as she watched a fireball erupt from the center of the lab. Everything she had done. Everything she had worked towards, it was all gone. “No…” If she could have cried, tears would have been on her cheeks. “No!”
Crystal rushed back into the rubble of her lab. As she dug through it, she found the remains of her lover and friends. They were gone, too badly damaged to repair. She collapsed to her knees. She was, once again, and forever, alone.
