me first playing DA2: who’s this moustache man thanks for the ring

me now after DA: I and falling for his ass: *taking actual real screencaps of Stroud* whomstdve am i hedwig

this is still the biggest plot twist in my DA life i mean....... i literally have hcs about Stroud now and how he and Os Trev have a Thing (tm) and he also doesn’t die in the Fade cos fuck that shit i want him alive

(also i still don’t consider Hawke and him ~friends~ just passing aquaintainces ya feel but i’m keeping the ring cos i, the player, is a dumbass who has a soft spot for this char who comes for 0.2 secs after DA: I)

@honeybee592 yep Hawke does have a decent relationship with Varric! def not as close to the holy trio of Fenris-Aveline-Anders, but yeah he likes Varric for sure since Varric is really the only char i feel barely judges Hawke for anything, hah. being a businessman and earning money is good Hawke can work with that. he actually has a nice-ish relationship with all of DA2 crew except Sebastian lmao they just will not get along ever and the day i finally get Seb's dlc when it's on sale it's gonna be mega suffering for him while i hold my head

being called to Skyhold is sooo iffy but i think he would suck it up and go. he wouldn't actively ~enjoy~ going there but with the Breach being obvious before that and all the shit happening it would be hard to ignore too. so he goes and since i'm doing qpr ot3 now there is no way Fenris would not accompany him on this journey so he won't be alone (after making sure Bethany and the group travelling with are safe for the moment with Aveline keeping a look out for them)

the only ooc thing is what happens post-DA: I when they say Hawke travels to find the Wardens cos the moment i saw that i was like ummm i don't think... he would? he really isn't selfless and good enough cos he's way more a neutral evil char only caring about his people so DA4 will have to come out before i think about this further 😂

but YEAH their friendship def continues again after running out of Kirkwall. i always picture Hawke actually kinda being happy and thriving a bit after running out cos he always hated Kirkwall and never cared about the well being of the city or his wealth/nobility, so being just out and more nomadic with Bethany safe would put him in a much happier mood than anything in the last 7-8 years tbh. and Anders at that point would still be depressed and shaky but i want to picture him healing as well after what he did. they won't start out immediately thick like act 2 levels of friendship but they would be on talking terms again unlike in act 3 when Hawke tells him to gtfo and stay away from him for fear of his actions biting him back 

i def think Hawke would help him escape and shield him from hunters since now he wouldn't have to answer to anyone once they're out, and he's internally thankful for what Anders did since it helps his family be together again and be with the people he cares about without a load on his back that something is gonna snap plus it always struck me as Bethany being close-ish to Anders too since they already get along well in act 1 itself, she says Anders reminds her of their dad and she has so much respect for him right off the bat and her Circle opinions are clear once the Thing happens. so shielding Anders is also an extended family duty by this point for Hawke lmao cos Beth would want to keep him safe too as they work along helping the escaped mages in the Free Marches (until Hawke has to leave for Skyhold i haven't worked it out yet tho i think Anders would still stay around with Beth and the small group of whoever mages they are helping. a lot of this is also selfish on my part since i don't want Anders alone and suffering like DA: I makes him out to be so i want to make sure he has friends who care about him and people who are thankful to him and let him continue helping and do what he does ;__;)

i’ve fallen down into my Anders phase again and i can’t stop taking caps of them ;__;

anyway here is where their friendship is strongest actually, only in act 2. Hawke doesn’t really care for him before, but once Bethany is dragged to the circle and in act 2 when u find out Anders is involved in the mage undreground helping them directly, Hawke’s opinion of him changes and he now has a personal stake in it too cos he’d want to know how things are going along in the Gallows and circle

BUT for the same exact reasons their friendship will crumble in act 3 in my hc lol cos by then the templars have tightened their hold on the city and on the circle, and Anders is very openly planning to start a revolution by this point in the timeline hence Hawke doesn’t think it’s safe anymore being good acquaintances with him since it would put Bethany at risk. both their personalities in act 3 would just really clash since they both get waay more super moody and depressd and one track solo mind and Hawke’s first priority is ensuring his lil sis is safe and that’s why he would be taking orders from Meredith in the beginning of act 3, while Anders gets shaky but dangerously determined too Hawke would take a step back from that ex-pal :’(

i’m still in act 2 tho so i can enjoy their friendship without overthinking it and feel warm and sunny when Anders says things like Hawke’s friendship means a lot to him and his faith inspires his work aaahhh. i’d have to think so much of repairing their relationship post-game for sure they are so important to me

o ye so Bethany says in a cutscene that the mabari bonded/chose Hawke and it’s one of the reasons Carver was jealous of him but i already trashed that in my hc before it happened cos i always imagined the mabari bonding to Beth. so he’s not actually “Hawke’s” or ~around~ when he is summoned in-game mechanics wise lol unless Beth is along for the trip 

i’d say Bethany was the one who found him as a puppo someday and they joined and Flowers (she named him) is very attached to her and becomes super depresso once she’s dragged to the Circle. 

also Flowers helps Hawke kill Cullen post-DA2. Flowers remembers and he won’t forget and neither will i

frankly it has been years but i’ll never get over this moment when Wesley threatens Bethany and Hawke steps in inbetween them staring at him until he backs off. he absolutely would have killed him if it came down to it

lol you know when the Inquisitor asks Hawke about Anders, and in-game Hawke gives this politically correct bullshit answer about how he's a hero and a monster both, that he's complicated, blah blahn a h when my Inquisitor asks my Hawke about Anders, Hawke is probably just gonna reply, "a visionary"

travelling with Bethany and Anders is soo cool wow

Hawke is so used to Bethany’s fire and her mastery of it swirling around him; destructive and searing when they’re fighting, gentle and soft when they’re alone. i imagine he’s so familiar with the comfortable magic heat warming his back and soot washing over his face

but with Anders it’s such a new feeling, new territory. everything is cold and hard and wintery and he’s in the middle of things freezing around him. even something simple like breathing in air is so different cos Hawke can feel his throat and lungs chilling in such close proximity to Anders’ spells. he sees his own breath blowing out from his mouth when he exhales and it’s not because of the weather

when Beth and Anders get to know each other better, their magic is so complimentary and gorgeous lighting up the field ahead. flames and ice fusing and curling around one another, being so in sync as it burns and cracks through anyone in front. blinding them just as a giant blade that is glinting and unbending and distinctively not magic comes ripping through the smoke and mist like a death sentence
