Surika

[Commissioned by @coldbloodassassin. I try not to judge or editorialize too much with monsters that are commissioned from me. But. I hate Shrieker. Not the design: it’s a cool looking monster. I especially like how the top of his head looks like a giant vertebra. But his power set is needlessly, bizarrely complicated. I have literally lost sleep trying to figure out how to make it work in Pathfinder. He spawns those little squirrel monsters, which then shoot leeches out of their mouths, which stick to things and then explode, but only when Shrieker tells them to. If you kill the spawned monsters, they explode too. And he can put people’s souls into animals? But only does this once. Too many steps, too many unrelated abilities. I simplified things here immensely, based on the video game appearances of Shrieker. And I justified the familiar summoning by drawing inspiration from the Zodiac Killer’s motivations.]
Surika CR 6 CE Undead This blue-skinned humanoid creature has an oversized skull-like head with a double crest running along its top. It has a ruff of fur around its neck, and its hands and feet end in bird like talons. Membranous wings grow along its arms.
A surika is a monstrous undead creature, its visage reflecting the hideousness of the spirit that created it. Surikas form from serial killers who believe that their victims will serve them in the afterlife. This conviction spirals into a refusal to die when the time comes, and to create familiars that act out its wishes. These familiars are not truly formed from a surika’s victims—instead they are fragments of its sins and personality flaws, similar to a quasit. A surika is a sadist, and they often take innocents hostage to use as bait. They are fond of extravagant promises, and just as extravagant threats.
Surikas use their familiars to spy on potential victims, as well as using them as living bombs to strike when unexpected. In combat, a surika orders its familiars to get into position so it can detonate them, using vibrations from a forked tongue like a bizarre tuning fork. They are no slouch in melee, having strong claws and a deadly bite, but surikas are inherently cowardly and attempt to flee from battles that turn against them. They have no desire to meet the fate that awaits their souls after a second, true death.
A surika stands nine feet tall when upright, but they typically move about on all fours, crouching like a frog.
