Susan Derges talks about her practice and projects, from early ones to the most recent.
What I really like about Susan’s work is that it’s honest, not pretentious, not too conceptual. It’s true art - a lifestyle, observation, commitment, challenge at times, consistency and love for what one does, through its ups and downs, cos the downs are only growing.
I would see myself as an artist if (When!) one day I find my own unique way of telling my story, my personal language, that is so easy to understand, as Susan Derges images are to be amazed at.
Her work actually encourages me to search, to go places without a plan, to look around the corners that, I would think, hide nothing of importance. Her work asks me to go into the night. And I’m hoping to find the balls to do that soon.
