Karalos headcanon?
(Would they be considered headcanon? I don't know)
WHAT RHE FUCK? WHERE DID THIS ASK GO??
?????
nvm I’ll just copy paste and delete the first one…either way thank you babe <33 it makes me so happy to see people liking the silly lil guys
mmmm…yeah, I think it might still count as a headcanon. It says something something readers interpretation or ideas that may not be directly confirmed or related to canon. I’m a reader of my own work, after all!
Anyway, (grabs BOOK O’ HEADCANONS)
He’s the chief cook on the ship because that’s what he was taught in his youth (pre transition)
He heard rumors once of a god getting drunk and placing a soul in the wrong gendered body because and went oh. Oh.
He never officially came out to anybody in his family. Instead, he cut his hair and disguised himself, then went and signed up for the war (though he had to do so under his legal name). Upon meeting him when they were getting on the ships, Eurylochus side-eyed him and the name on the roster, and pulled him aside to make sure he was really supposed to be there.
Karalos explained everything, and Eurylochus accepted this (he don’t trust the gods, he would not be surprised at them for fucking up one person’s gender)
He agreed to keep it a secret and to change the deadname on the roster to a chosen name, Karalos
Because of this, Karalos trusts Eurylochus more than anyone on the ship- including Odysseus.
Karalos is a slight deviation of ‘Karolos’, which essentially means ‘man’ or ‘free man’.
He later got teased for his name’s simple meaning, but he figured it was better that then for being trans
He was hesitant to get too close with anyone on the ship because he was afraid they’d find out and expose him
He used to be friends with Thodoris, but due to the above bullet point, and the fact that Thodoris and Karalos died pretty far apart, they ended up not as close
He learned how to carve things, mostly for fun. He learned a bit of it from Thodoris, though he struggled to continue the hobby after Polyphemus.
He does NOT like confrontation, mostly because he doesn’t want to be put on the spot or in the limelight at any point
I had someone comment that Miron should be a medic (since I didn’t make a medic oc and he’d fit the bill pretty well), and so I think Miron would volunteer with Polites as a medic- and at some point, one of them (probably Miron bc Polites’ POV would have mentioned it in SUtE or somewhere else) catches Karalos stealing bandages to use to bind his chest. He assumes he’s self-harming and gets really concerned and just. Quietly lets him go and tries to offer support whenever he can. Karalos is a mixture of terrified and grateful and confused at this.
I think it’d be funny if he was one of the men that went onto Circe’s island and when she saw him as a pig she got really confused because that’s not what a piggy penis looks like
I know it’s not what sirens are supposed to do but I think it’d be really damn cool if he saw his old pre-transition self during Suffering
The others would ask who that was later and he’d brush it off as “oh…an old childhood friend I had a crush on” while trying not to sweat
He was drawn to Tiresias initially as another disadvantaged, self-isolating soul, but he didn’t want to approach them directly.
Then he got outed by some asshole crew member, and introduced properly to Tiresias
From then on, the two of them have been pretty good friends. Karalos is one of Tiresias’ most trusted friends and Eurylochus will often ask him to ‘keep an eye on the prophet’- really, it’s them keeping an eye on each other, since they’re both targets.
Karalos doesn’t exactly know it, but Hermes is pleased with him for being a faithful companion for Tiresias. Would probably grant them a small blessing or favor if they asked.
Anyway. All this to say
Rip Karalos you would’ve loved a blåhaj
