You thought the 1980s American “Just Say No” Anti-Drug message was dumb?  Well, check out this modern Japanese anti-Drug poster which encourages the SUTEKI method:

How to Say No to Drugs

Use our SUTEKI (wonderful) method to say no:

Slurp udon instead of slurping drugs

Use caution when picking what you consume, like choosing good tempura

Take some udon instead of taking drugs

Eat the udon happily

Kindly go home after you’re done eating

Instead of another white powder, have some wheat flour

Remember kid, Noddles are the Government Sanctioned Anti-Drug!

(That’s a rough translation above and doesn’t exactly correspond the the Hiragana/Katakana on the poster which Actually read SU TE KI NA KO SHI.)

The poster comes from Kagawa Prefecture which is famous for its Udon noodles.  Still, the Japanese who have seen the poster aren’t too thrilled with it. As these responses show.

“I think whoever made this was on drugs.”

“Better to be addicted to udon, I guess?”

“If you start huffing wheat flour, you’re done for.”

“As a resident of Kagawa Prefecture, I apologize.”

ライブペイント と SUTEKI SHOP で参加しました。

土曜と日曜で2人の役割、交換スタイルです。

ありがとうございました。

ペイントしてる横に居て、私のスケッチブックを見ると

「あ、そっちが本物ですよね？」

って小さな坊やが言いました。

その瞬間、

頭の中に音楽が流れて、風がぶわっと吹いて桜マイチルチルチルチル‥！

目を覚ますと桜なんて咲いてないよ。真白な紙だけなのさ。ぺろー。

まだまだまだまだ寒いけど、季節は春で

センチメンタルをどうしよう。

けどね、必要おセンチなんだって知ってる。

ありがとね。名も知らぬ素敵な君よ。いつだって、小さな人は大きいなあ。

苦しい！楽しい！恥ずかしい！みんなに会えるとそれだけで嬉しい！

あー、こりゃ熱出る手前だな
