UT Campus Scenes Here the architectural details of the university’s Sutton Hall (SUT), one of the three buildings serving the School of Architecture. The building was named for William Seneca Sutton who began teaching at the university in 1897. Sutton later became the first dean of the College of Education in 1909. Sutton Hall, then home to the College of Education, was named for Sutton after his death in 1930.
Sutton Hall was designed by then-university architect Cass Gilbert. Serving as the campus architect from 1910 to 1922, Gilbert is best known for his Spanish Renaissance style architecture, designing Battle Hall and the layout of the South Mall.
