HEROES CALL MARVEL # 8 - MARVELMAN
Marvelman was created by Mick Anglo and first appeared in “Marvelman” #25 (Feb. 1954).
While the legal battle between Fawcett Comics and DC Comics was going on in the USA, L. Miller & Son, Ltd had been republished B&W issues of the Captain Marvel stories. But when Fawcett decided to settle out of court with DC, Miller & Son were in a bind - new issues of their reprint would soon end. Sales were strong enough that they commissioned comic package Mick Anglo to come up with a replacement.
Anglo came up with a very thinly revised Captain Marvel with the original name Marvelman. Marvelman’s alter-ego was Micky Moran and when he said KIMOTA (Atomic backwards) he transformed into a costumed hero. While Captain Marvel had black hair and wore a red costume, Marvelman had blonde hair and a blue costume. Captain Marvel’s arch rival was scientist Dr. Sivana and Marvelman fought Dr. Gargunza.
Marvelman comic picked up the numbering of the former Captain Marvel comic and first appeared in Marvelman #25 (Feb. 1954). It continued for 346 issues (most weekly). It’s important to note that Mick Angelo occasionally included "© Mick Anglo" in some issues.
