The home of Eben and Eliza (Dustin) Sutton, which was located on Main Street here in Peabody. Eben made his fortune in the textile industry in North Andover. Eben was born on September 10, 1809 in South Danvers, now Peabody. Eben and Eliza (1806-1889) were married in 1827.
Eliza was involved with the Female Benevolent Society and the Ladies Unitarian Society among others. When Eben died in 1864 she would later make a $20,000 donation to the Peabody Institute to build a reference room, which was to be called the Eben Dale Sutton Reference Room, in 1866, now known as the Sutton Room.
The had two children who both died as children Eben, was born in 1836 and died in 1839 while Eben Dale was born in 1848 and died in 1862.
