Sometimes when I’m half-asleep I make up fanfic in my head, right? (That’s how Rediscovering Home came about.) Well, this morning I woke up sleep deprived and tried to get back to sleep that way. Somehow the fic wound up trying to continue suturmon’s ghost boyfriend AU since the fic has been hiatus’d/discontinued. After any summoning stuff, like at the very end of the fic.
Ryou’s brother wound up trying to exorcise him at one point and this pissed Ryou the hell off. Ambient objects were getting smashed and dented (like the stove had been). The problem was, Bakura had taken solace in his own room to try and escape the argument. Things got really heated and unfortunately the objects in Bakura’s room also were affected. Neither Ryou nor his brother realized what was going on, but things were getting lifted and smashed--including Bakura, who was lifted and dropped at an angle that twisted his neck. A bookcase fell on him and that was that. When Ryou found the body later, he wasn’t able to call for any help and disappeared despairingly/guiltily for months on end.
The news jumped on it since that’s two murders in a row, years apart; they reported it as an intruder having been let in, doing a bunch of property damage before beating Bakura and killing him. It was thought to be the same killer as Ryou’s, using different methods.
One day, Malik is walking by and sees Bakura in the window. Horrified but kinda knowing what’s up, he goes in and is confronted with Bakura wondering who the hell took all his stuff (since everything that wasn’t removed as evidence was trashed, donated, passed on, etc.; this is the first time Bakura’s woken up since it happened). Malik’s just there getting paler and paler until he can interject to explain that Bakura’s been dead for two months. Of course he’s incredulous but eventually he can’t deny it.
Malik asks him what he last remembers. He remembered Ryou and his brother’s fight but assumes things quieted down and he went to bed. As they talk, both Malik and Bakura realize that Ryou was responsible for his death. Malik tries to get the hell out of there, now knowing that the ghosts are deadly; Bakura tries to follow him but the open doorway is like a barrier. Malik relents and returns, hearing just how confused and devastated Bakura is, but sits cross-legged in the hallway without entering the room, since that’s where the ghosts’ influence seems to stop.
Bakura starts to get upset both at Ryou for killing him and at Malik for trying to leave, but when the things in the apartment react to his explosive emotions (and his own body starts to twist/bruise the way it did when it was crushed), he realizes exactly what Malik’s so afraid of and disappears. Malik hangs out calling for Bakura for 20 minutes or so before giving up and going home.
Malik goes home; Ishizu asks him what he did that day and he goes, “You know, just talked to Bakura” and explains. Everyone agrees Malik did the right thing; at some point soon, Ishizu drops off some incense that’s supposed to help calm restless spirits, but Bakura doesn’t show up in the apartment.
When Bakura’s next awake he starts calling for Ryou and gets furious at him.
That fight is about as far as I got, but I dunno, I feel like making the ghost boyfriend a plural is kinda fitting. ^^; Just wanted to jot these down before I forgot.
