So, I am constructing an edit plan. This is what that looks like: I read through the chapter and all the associated notes. I review the index card version of what’s important to improve in this draft. Then I write notes for myself in my story’s margins. I am trying not to tinker and line edit here — though a word or two is irresistible. These are notes about major beats. One of them outlines a whole new scene. One of them deletes a scene. Took about 90 minutes to do this chapter.
