Swagata looks awesome as a winter princess, don’t you think? ;) It has been so cold in Sweden, and that usually results in wintery pics. And this year I decided to put Swagata in a lot of wintery outfits :3
Some Spooky SPEJS characters I drew during Inktober. I like that Morwen and Ragna’s spooky game is pretty strong while Swagata and especially Gav are more...spoopy XD
I am still toying around a bit with Morwen’s battle outfit. I am pretty set on Swagata’s outfit and colors though, green/turquoise fits her well :)
Hopefully I can start working a bit with the storyboard for their adventure next week!
Origin of Swagata & Morwen
Swagata & Morwen doesn’t have quite as long history as Ragna and Gav, but I’ve working out Morwen’s race (pangee) for quite a while.
Well, maybe I just wanted to make some hot dudes in the beginning...
...but the idea of the race containing some fierce ladies turned up pretty early as well :) And of course they need to know magic!
This could probably be an early prototype of Swagata. I wanted to have a shorter and sturdier character in my team and I was fond of the short hair/headband combo :)
Here is an early group shot of “Ragna”, “Gav”, “Swagata” and “Morwen”. I wanted to add some diversity into the group, so “Swagata” got a darker skin tone. And for some reason she got thinner as well. And yes, I was considering to let “Morwen” be a guy for a long time...here, he actually looks a lot like another old character of mine...
(Haha, yes, I just did post a picture I did 1999! He was my orignal bishounen character in my fantasy comic I did back then! XD Dark hair, pale skin, grumpy!) Aaaaanyways...!
Further development on “Swagata”’s looks. Darker hair, which looks more natural. And more curls :) In this fantasy iteration, “Swagata” was supposd to be a rouge-ish character while “Morwen” probably was a mage still learning his powers.
And here they are in the sci-fi setting! Swagata got her more sturdy physique back <3 And “Morwen” is still a guy! I even gave him a proper name, Ruark! He was supposed to at first be half pangee and just developed his powers. Then I scrapped that and made him a criminal that had been trapped in cryo-sleep for way too long (the facility where he was contained had been abandoned, but I guess his cryo-tank still worked?). I had a lot of ideas for this guy.
Just look at this crazy lil’ boo! :D But yeah, I kinda scrapped it too, because it felt so boring with the “dangerous loose bullet guy”, and eventually he turned into Morwen! because why not? I need to make more lead female characters!
Here she still looks like a cocky ex-criminal, and I kinda had that idea for a while as well, but I decided to change that for her in the last minute. She’s more of a high society girl with a taste for adventure!
As for Swagata, I was pretty set on her being a hacker from the start, but I wasn’t sure what her origin story should be like. I had the idea of her trying to get into the military, but got scammed by her “boyfriend”, but I scrapped that. Then I decided to just make her a well educated computer whiz that was loved to find security breaches in various systems. She probably has a rival in the military though that hates her for hacking into their systems ;) I also had the idea of the gang having a boss above Swagata, but I thought that she’s probably competent enough to make SPEJS work on her own ;)
And that’s pretty much Swagata and Morwen’s origins. While they’re not quite as fleshed out as Ragna and Gav’s stories, I really look forward to write them for the next chapter! They’ll be quite the dynamic duo that combines tech, magical powers, brains and strength!
