The second installment of Tom Ridge’s photos were taken in the northern portion of the Southern California PCT. Three man made features of the trail that have become iconic symbols: the arrays of wind turbines at one of the several massive wind farms that PCT traverses, the LA aqueduct as it crosses an arm of the Mojave north of Hiker Town (water so close but so far away), and the Swallow Bridge that spans the Kern River (and really marks the end of the arid south.
Tom brought cold beer and meatball sandwiches at Mile 315 for some much appreciated trail magic. I’m glad his photos captured not only some of the beauty of the PCT but this delightful aspect of trail culture.
