“Don’t look the dog in the eyes. He don’t like it”
one upright arm sustains the cheek come walk with me when things go wrong there’s always the hedgerow
Little Onion - 2011
From ‘Health Walk’ Paul Conneally with Nita Pearson ‘Whitwick to Swannington and Back’ May 2011
——————————— Notes The line: ‘one upright arm sustains the cheek’ is a fragment from “HOW RICH THAT FOREHEAD’S CALM EXPANSE” by William Wordsworth. Wordsworth tells us that the poem HOW RICH THAT FOREHEAD’S CALM EXPANSE was inspired by a print at Coleorton Hall, North West Leicestershire. Mrs Wordsworth’s impression was that HOW RICH THAT FOREHEAD’S CALM EXPANSE was also written at Coleorton Hall despite William’s note that it was written at Rydal Mount in the Lake District.
A Wanted Bird- James and Odette
A grey fog floated out to sea, searching for something to cling onto it seemed. A swan emerged from the mist as if it was born, tired beyond expression and furthermore winded. The bird landed gracefully on the dock, her head low, carrying a golden heart shaped locket, draped on it's long white neck. The bird then looked around, making sure that no one was within sight of her. It was dawn in Port Royal the coast was clear. The swan bowed her head lower so that the necklace slipped right off of it's long neck. The swan then dived into the mist so that for sure she wasn't in view. Within moments, Odette poked her head out of the water gasping for breath. She climbed up onto the dock and picked up her locket, fastening it on her neck once more. The princess felt frigid and somewhat worried about this new area that she has never traveled to before.
Odette ran and jumped into James arms," HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAMES!" Odette squeezed the commodore tightly," I have a dinner all prepared for you, I hope you like Italian!"
*Modern* James grinned and hugged Odette back. “Thank you Odette! You really are too kind at times. And yes, that does sound wonderful.”
