CLOSED STARTER for @swansatcoole PLOT: would you help me zip this in the back? from this post MUSE: viviana "vivi" hernandez garcia, 28, she/her, pansexual, heiress
WHILE VIVI THOUGHT SHE HAD BEEN KEEPING IT TOGETHER, her friends informed her that her not-so-little crush was beyond painfully obvious. but as far as vivi was aware they were still in the dark and unaware. she wanted to keep it that way. while her last relationship had ended months ago, vivi wasn't sure if she was ready to get back in the dating game. and even though she was not opposed to casual fun, that wasn't what she wanted with them. so tonight was just them going out and having a good time, as friends. vivi was running behind (as usual), hurrying to meet them in her foyer, ready except for one thing. "would you help me zip this in the back?"

consciousness greets him like a freight train and saint is tied to the tracks, his body aching and his thread throbbing. instead of the sound of a steam whistle, however, it's a loud phone alarm that disturbs his dreamless sleep. "turn it off," he complains, assuming that this is another one of his countless one night stands. it's not surprising that he had fallen into bed with someone, even though the recollection of the night before is fuzzy. brows furrowing, he begins to remember that he's meant to be with the other guys in the wedding party. abruptly, he sits up, nausea rolling sourly in his stomach and blinking away the sleep clinging to his lids. appraising the person next to him, he blurts out, "who the fuck are you, anyway?"

even though a café owner isn’t the career he envisioned for himself ten years ago, he thinks he’s ended up in the right place after all. just like his parents did with their humble donut shop — and still do to this day, both too invested in the endeavour to retire yet—he enjoys seeing the faces his desserts bring to others, the warm chitchats about their days, and even being a counsellor to his troubled customers if they trust him enough to be a listening ear. that said, some of his regulars have taken up more of a top spot in his mind, and she would be one of them. “you’re welcome.” he responds with a smile, its warmth akin to the first sunlight of spring breaking through clouds. “ah, that sounds exhausting. i definitely don’t miss the assignments." he empathises, before he adds with curiosity, “are you caught up with them yet, or is this your much-needed break?” he shrugs when the concern is directed back to him, his shoulders relaxing. “i’ve been good, and yes, things have gotten busier, but i’m not complaining.” if anything, he’s thrilled that the café’s popularity has grown through word of mouth. “been busy trying out new recipes too.” he gestures at the slice of cake he just brought to her, the rich milk tea flavoured cream glistening with a glossy ganache. “so i’d love to know what you think.”

liar. the accusation crosses her mind the second he utters his answer, but she keeps it to herself — there’s no need to push him to talk about what he doesn’t want to, especially when they aren’t supposed to be asking the other questions like this anymore. watching quietly as he takes the cap off his head and changes his expression to a more neutral one, she narrows her eyes at his question instead. while her question stemmed from a place of goodwill, habitually checking on him even though she now knows she shouldn’t have, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out the thinly veiled hostility of his echo. “forget i asked.” she utters instead, shooting a sarcastic smile of her own. a bitter taste coats her tongue. “my bad for forgetting how much of a jerk you could be.”

waking up with a pounding headache and an incredibly dry throat is nothing new for mari; she always takes a night out too far. with a groan she turns on to her side and reaches for the bottle of water she'd normally have on her bedside table. huh. she must've forgot the night before. slowly she takes in her surroundings and then does a double take when she realises she's not the only person in her hotel bed. also not that unusual. "hey. wake up," she reaches over to give them a shake, eyebrows pinching together when she notices the ring sat upon her finger.
