SWAPCAMP ART !!! Tried to mesh my style with Camp Camp's just a bit but failed so hard
DANIEL WAKE UP:3
I'm totally in the cult now rawr
Didn't you suggest the cult too??
Does Davey take Canon Max’s place as the camp’s “troublemaker” that the counselors have to constantly keep an eye on, or is he a generally well behaved camper? maybe because he’s so excited to go on adventures and have fun that he gets himself in less than ideal situations lol
Him replacing Max as the troublemaker is. Exactly what I imagined for him.
Though I'd like to think he is a little more well-behaved than Max, he'd still find his way into some insane scenarios. Davey would 100% be glued to Nikki and Neil's sides, too, which wouldn't help.
He'd either be trying to solve a mystery, trying to get Max to like Camp/trying to figure him out, or just be so hyper that he HAS to go do something. Either way, he'd still be Max's personal headache.
(Max would also have a weird sixth sense for whenever Davey gets into trouble)
How would Daniel work out in this AU?
I have literally NO idea, but maybe there'd be an evil Max instead ?? I think it'd be pretty funny for Max to hire what he thinks is a super cool and nonchalant guy, just for him to end up being secretly NICE TO KIDS !!! THE HORROR !!! Obviously it probably wouldn't work EXACTLY that way, but I think it'd be fun.
Also, low hanging boob joke. Comedy gold.
Another idea would be for Max to " hire " an actual kid. I dont think he would ACTUALLY hire a kid, but it'd be so funny if Max just saw a bleached version of David and said, " Yeah, good enough. Welcome to the team. "
Maybe Daniel would find a workaround for it, saying something like, " Oh, let's just sign me up for camp counselor camp ", which would also be pretty funny.
back again. as the resident worlds most normal guy i have to know. what’s up with jasper in your au if he’s in it at all. asking for a friend
IM SO GLAD YOU ASKED THIS. Jasper is a super important part of SwapCamp. He's the main reason Max works as a counselor.
Max, like David in canon, went to CampCamp when he was younger and was partnered with Jasper for the Order of the Sparrow. The only difference is that, by the end of the adventure, Max still hates Camp. This would've probably caused Jasper and Max to be closer than David and Jasper were in canon.
Jasper still dies in a similar way, though. When Campbell says he's gonna shut down the camp, Max and Jasper go off to find evidence to shut it down permanently TOGETHER. At some point, they separate to look for something incriminating, and Jasper finds the cave that eventually leads to his death.
Max is WAY more situationally aware than David is, so he KNOWS Jasper died. He wasn't with him when it happened, but he kept up with his parents and knows Jasper is missing. Being 10 and all, he kinda has a hard time finding out how to prove his case. SO, he waits until he's 16, then starts working at Camp Camp so he can dig up more evidence on Campbell to screw him over. He hasnt turned him in yet because, at this point, Campbell keeps doing crazier shit that could get him into even deeper trouble, and Max just lets him.
Max's hatred for Campbell is supposed to replace David's admiration for him. Where Canon David would get carried away because he wanted to please him, Max would get carried away by watching Campbell dig a deeper hole for himself. For example, Parent's Day. Canon David accidentally disregarded Max's feelings in order to make Campbell happy. SwapCamp Max would unintentionally disregard Davey's feelings in order to piss Campbell off.
I ALSO think it would add an interesting addition to Max and Davey's dynamic. Davey is a little like Jasper was before The Order of the Sparrow, and Max would 1000% realize that. ( Me when the kid im starting to have paternal feelings for reminds me of my late childhood best friend ?! Relatable ?1!!?! )
SWAPCAMP -> CAMPCAMP AU
Totally original idea ik ( /j )
My take on CampCamp but David and Max switch roles ! I absolutely love the idea of their dynamic, so here's a bunch of general info I scraped together for them! ( + art , ofc )
Feel free to ask questions abt them / give me ideas for them !
More SwapCamp art !!? Don't mind that they're drawn in two completely different styles </3
+Closeup on Davey, first drawing of him that I've actually liked
Davey swampcamp's relationship with his parents- what's it like??
Davey is pretty much the exact opposite of how Max is in canon, but with a similar theme between him and his parents.
His overly optimistic character would make it seem like he'd latch onto his parents, but he absolutely does not. Davey has little to no faith in the relationship between his parents and him. They care and love him to some degree, but its a confusing thing. He tries to change for them still, but does not believe they could ever love him like a regular family does.
His father is divorced from his mother and does not seek Davey out in any capacity. He is distant with him, and their interactions are sparse and awkward whenever they do happen. This causes Davey to try and "better himself" for his father, believing it to be a fault on his own behalf, not on his dad's. He's hypercritical of himself, always looking for things to change and do better with. Exhausting for a kid.
His mother is arguably worse. Davey, due to the absence of his father, latched onto his mom tenfold. This frustrates his mother to no end. She still loves him, he thinks, but she is distant and hard to read. One moment, she'll praise him for doing something that "makes her look like a good parent", and the next, she'll be telling him how disappointed she is in him. This causes him to be super nervous, always waiting for the other shoe to drop.
His mom will never directly compliment him or encourage him, other than to make herself look better in a way. She does not indulge in his clear need for affection, physical or verbal. This causes him to latch onto others and seem more "outgoing."
His father may care about him, but he never grew attached to him, seeing as he was absent due to the divorce. His mother cares about him and even loves him to a degree, but she doesn't like him. She finds him inconvenient most of the time, so he's mainly alone.
He'd latch onto Max and Gwen SO bad because of all of this. He's still wary of them, but it stems from his fear of "messing up", not lack of belief in them. Opposite of Max.
Maxdad FOR THE WIN.
