One of the biggest problems i have with the international kpop fandom is that a culture is created where we wait for groups to do problematic shit so we can pin them as the face of problematic behavior and “cancel” them. But a shit apology and a few months later when another group does something problematic that other group becomes the new face of problematic behavior and people forget of that past group’s actions. So companies think it’s fine to never learn because they figure us international fans will forget by the time the next comeback rolls around.
That’s why i have a problem with the way people are responding to mamamoo’s shit behavior. Because it’s just been about calling them mamaflops and whatever but no one is really taking action and people are forgetting about other groups and individuals who did some shit stuff.
I wish the community took a more proactive role by writing formal letters to companies demanding for cultural education of the artists and staff and really look at these problematic issues as a holistic problem rather than “this is the latest racist group”.
I tried to point this out on a reblog and I was actually blocked by several users who accused me of “shielding mamaflop”. I just wanted to submit this to express how I feel this fandom deals with this stuff.
