Everyday, a war is waged to keep you, and time takes the first shot everytime. It's a battle waged from the moment I open my eyes until I close them again. Time takes from me with every fleeting second. Yesterday, I lost the smell of sea salt in the air. The day before, I lost the feeling of newspaper between my fingers. Somewhere in the distant past, I lost the melody to what was supposed to be the most beautiful song in the universe. I sweep my fingers through my mind, only to find I have been wiped clean. Time. What silent thievery you do. Today, it tries to take you, and god did I fight. I gritted my teeth. I recited your name over and over again until it's a song in my head and a scream in my throat. I held on to a fragment of a shard of a glint of a memory. 'Not his eyes'. 'Not his voice'. 'Not his touch'. In the end, I sacrifice the brightest night sky I had ever seen. Time gladly takes it, and like Lucifer in the garden, slithers away for the day. Tomorrow, I give it my mother's red dress. The day after, I give it Coney Island. But not you. Never you. Everyday, a war is waged to keep you. And everyday, I fight.

hardest character to write - it really is Bucky that takes a lot of energy to write because he’s character who has suffered enough. The sensitivity that it entails to write Bucky while being respectful to his sufferings is really important, and sometimes it makes it so that I’m almost stepping around glass when I write him.
