:)) okay, so: how did you choose the place where you are studying now? (i don´t even know where exactly it is, but nevermind :D) did you get there through your uni od did you organize that by yourself? :) is it hard staying in a foreign country, really far from your home? :) are there lots of foreign students at your uni? :) (i´ve got so many questions, so if you don´t get tired of them, i will keep going!) :))
I’m in Stockholm, studying at a program that’s in handels/the sse, but isn’t actually integrated with the school (we’re all americans together). the program is independent from my school, but there were certain things I had to work out with them, like applying to study abroad in general, transfering credits, etc. I really like my program because it makes organizing everything really easy, and I’m sort of a baby and didn’t want to have to handle applying directly to foreign university programs, and stuff like that
being away actually hasn’t been that bad! I love my apartment and doing things like grocery shopping on my own (I’m sure that won’t last but the novelty hasn’t worn off yet) and because a lot of people speak english, getting help when I need it hasn’t been bad. I’m getting into the time period of being here (2-3 weeks) where it’s pretty normal to get hit with culture shock, but I haven’t experienced anything like that yet - I think part of that is just that Stockholm is a really nice, easy to manage city, so aside from language barrier, most of the differences seem like nice changes, or are small enough that haven’t started to bother me yet. this could all still change, but I’m hoping things will stay good! to be honest, most of the things that have been hardest here are things like making friends within the program and more social stressors, rather than issues with getting used to Sweden itself
I haven’t met a ton of people from the university, since my program is pretty insular, but I think they’re mostly Swedish! I’m hoping we can meet more people through student orgs, but I’m not sure if that will work out. I’ve made a couple of Swedish friends through other things here, and have a contact family, which means I don’t live with them, but I can hang out with them whenever we feel like getting together, and they’ve been really wonderful!
hopefully this was helpful, let me know if you have more questions, and thanks for asking!!
