Hamiltodd
The award winning performance of #HAMILTODD by the Shenandoah Valley Drama Club. This was originally performed, written, and composed by he cast of Hamilton for the 2016 Easter Bonnet Competition. But sticking to tradition, SVDC put a little twist on it!

Back in January, SVDC (Shenandoah Valley Drama Club, my fam) took a trip to NYC to see Spring Awakening. On our travels, we were required to play the Hamilton Lottery. 3 out of the 11 names called that day hailed from a little drama club called SVDC. We had no idea how much it would inspire us for the rest of the theatrical season.
Two days before we opened, a lovely thing happened... The cast of Hamilton decided to perform “Demon Barber, Sweeney Todd” at the annual Easter Bonnet Competition. When we found out, we were losing our minds. We thought if there was ever a sign from the universe, this is it!
When we opened that weekend, we felt a rush, we were happy, we were ready to hit that audience with some truth. And that’s what we did. We were happy with our show, happy with our craft, and we wouldn’t let anything get us down. We wanted to be remembered, to change lives, and we made sure we did it all season long, right down to the very last second. 5/15/16 we performed Hamiltodd at our local awards show and won best performance of the evening. The entire auditorium was on their feet and cheering for us, whether it was a parent or a rival school. We won an award in the moment and we won an award that was given to us even though we took a huge risk.
I’m from a very small school in Pennsylvania in an area where the arts aren’t really recognized much. At pep rallies we get mocked and made fun of while the sports teams get most of the glory. We don’t get much credit for the amount of sheer talent and passion we have. But this show and this performance is something we can always be proud of. We may only be a small club from a tiny town, but we’re so much more than that. We are a family.
